POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State’s Human Research Protection Program (HRPP) in the Office for Research Protections (ORP) is seeking motivated and experienced IRB Analysts to join two of our review teams.

We are recruiting for two fully remote positions—one supporting the Full Board review team and one supporting the Expedited/Exempt review team.

The ORP, part of the Office of the Senior Vice President for Research, plays a pivotal role in supporting Penn State’s diverse research community, boasting an annual research expenditure over $1 billion and ranking among the top 30 public research universities in the nation. Penn State University is a land-grant Research 1 (R1) university with campuses and facilities throughout Pennsylvania, conducting teaching, research, and public service.

Responsibilities: For both positions, the IRB Analyst will report to a Senior Team Lead and will collaborate with all members of the HRPP. These roles will include the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain appropriate documentation of compliance reviews and determinations as required by federal regulations and by University policy.
  • Assist faculty, students and staff in preparing human research protocols, develop and maintain IRB training materials.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for virtual seminars/workshops at University Park, the College of Medicine, and other campus locations to faculty, staff and students about regulations and policies governing human subjects involved in research at Penn State.
  • Interact with other University compliance committees and various other offices such as the Office of Research Information Systems at University Park, Office of Sponsored Programs, Office of General Counsel, Office of Information Security, and faculty, staff, and students at all Penn State campuses across the commonwealth.
  • Collaborate in creating, reviewing and updating IRB policies and guidelines, standard operating procedures, and submission forms.

The Full board review position will focus on:

  • Review of full board research protocols as well as full board meeting management tasks.

The Expedited/Exempt review position will focus on:

  • Review of exempt and expedited human research protocols as well as not human research determinations.
