Training Specialist - COMMS/DATA LINK/RADAR TECH Trainer

HOW A TRAINING SPECIALIST WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

● As a Training Specialist you will help train specializing in surface radars, navigation and data link systems for surface combatants.
This role supports Advanced Warfare Training (AWT) Phases, including Self-Assessment Groom Training (SAGT). The successful candidate will develop, organize, and conduct technical and tactical training necessary to meet US Navy training requirements.

● This role will encompass both classroom and hands-on instruction for technicians and tacticians on the operation and maintenance of Navigation and Data Link Systems. The trainer will develop, test, maintain, and deliver moderately complex training programs and related materials in support of customer training objectives, establishing, setting and reviewing course content and objectives. Responsibilities also include developing criteria for evaluating effectiveness of training activities, maintaining records, tracking participant progress, and regularly updating course documentation to ensure timeliness and relevance.

● Must demonstrate a deep understanding of navigational systems and the ability to provide technical training to technicians onboard Aegis and SSDS MK 2 platforms. Candidates will ensure units demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to properly initialize, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the onboard navigational systems IAW CSOSS procedures and technical documentation.

● Advanced Navigation Sensors and Displays include: Moriah Wind System (MWS) or analog windbird systems. Proficiency with ECDIS-N (Electronic Chart Display and Information System – Navy) or Voyage Management System (VMS) familiarity in Global Positioning System-Based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing Service (GPNTS) is essential. The candidate will also be adept with the Digital Hybrid Speed Log (DHYSL).

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

● Education, Bachelor’s Degree in a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work/military experience.

● Qualifications, Five (5) years of experience with the required system or process as either a maintenance technician or operator with responsibility for teaching the applicable system or function task to others in an apprentice level training environment. Of the five years, one (1) year experience as an instructor or facilitator in a Navy Training Environment, to include curriculum maintenance, writing learning objectives, preparing test items, evaluating instructional materials and the results of instruction and counseling students on academic learning problems.

● Combat System Training: requires comprehensive knowledge of casualty response, familiarity with CSOSS, Sailor to Engineer websites and experience with Combat System Training Team (CSTT) methodologies.

● Preferred Navigational Systems and Networks Expertise include: Global Positioning System (GPS), Navigation Sensor System Interface (NAVSSI) and Digital Multiplexing Systems (DMS) as well as modern data networks such as Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS). Knowledge of Interior Communication Switchboards (ICSB), their uses, and typical locations on a ship is necessary. The candidate should be proficient with the Navigation Critical Distribution System (NCDS) and their function in distributing navigation-based messaging.
