Supervisor, Interpretive Programs - Nemours Estate

Nemours is seeking a Supervisor, Interpretive Programs for the Nemours Estate! Encompassing a 77-room mansion, the largest French-inspired formal gardens in North America, and 200+ acres of grounds, Nemours Estate was owned and developed by Nemours’ benefactor, Alfred I. duPont (1864-1935). The Interpretive Supervisor oversees interpretive and public programs (e.g., tours, lectures, special music and events) for Estate audiences, and trains, schedules, manages and evaluates interpretive staff who deliver such programs. In concert with the Manager of Collections and Interpretation, as well as other members of the Estate Leadership Team and interpretive staff, the Interpretive Supervisor strives to develop and offer engaging interpretive programs which enhance visitors’ experiences and deepen the understanding of Nemours’ significance and the enduring legacy of Alfred I. duPont and his family.

Responsibilities:

1. Manages the scheduling, training, and daily functioning of all interpretive staff and the orientation and in-depth training of new Interpreters, whether they work in the Mansion or around the Estate.
2.  In collaboration with the Guest Services, ensures that information about interpretive programming is shared with Guest Services staff.
3. Develops and maintains interpretive training and evaluation guidelines, programs and materials, reflecting the best and most up-to-date professional practices in historic site interpretation, public history and customer service in a cultural organization. 
4.  Hires vendors and/or guest speakers in support of public programs and events as needed.
5. Undertakes research in Nemours Estate’s historical collections and/or other resources to uncover and distill information that can help enhance staff and guests’ understanding of Nemours Estate; works to develop, synthesize, and incorporate research findings into Interpreter training and/or interpretive programming, to ensure that such findings are shared with the public. 
6. Works closely with members of Nemours Estate’s Leadership Team to refine programming strategies, ensure consistency of messaging, identify measurements of success, and establishing/updating an annual programs calendar. 
7. Works collaboratively with the Manager of Collections and Interpretation to assist in the development of short- and long-range plans for interpretive programs and visitor experiences, consistent with Nemours Estate’s mission and audience development objectives.
8. Manages the continuing development of interpretive staff through organized lectures, workshops and visits to other historic sites and public gardens.
9. Provides managerial coverage for the Estate and Guest Services on specified weekdays (Tuesday-Friday), on Saturdays, and/or during special events as needed or requested. 

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree required 
• Valid US driver’s license required
