Job Description
The transportation division of AECOM has an exciting opportunity for a creative, highly talented Structural Engineer to join our Bridges and Structures Design team for the New York Metro area. This role can be based out of New York City or Piscataway, NJ.
The appropriately qualified applicant will be able to demonstrate an established career with experience in Transportation Structures in the New York Metro market. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivery of a range of projects for both public and private sector clients. The transportation business in New York is made up of professional technical experts in the bridges, highways, ports & marine, airports, rail and planning disciplines.
As an Associate Vice President, your knowledge and understanding of delivery expectations must be understood to effectively lead as projects are executed under conventional or alternative delivery models. Moreover, less experienced staff will seek guidance and direction making a strong understanding of structural and building codes critical. Implied is an ability to complete structural design from planning through to detailed design stages for steel, concrete and wood structures. Enjoyment of deriving technical solutions from a pragmatic understanding of empirical theories is an attribute.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Leading the development of proposals to clients for the delivery of studies and/or design services and developing engineering budgets and schedules to meet requirements
- Working independently with general guidance and mentoring junior engineers within the bridge group
- Undertaking technical analysis, including developing new methods and techniques to complete complex or unique studies
- Taking a lead technical design role and ensuring compliance with current design standards
- Performing quality control review of design calculations or drawings
- Working with technical staff with design and review undertaken by them to ensure that all deliverables are completed to a high degree of accuracy and to AECOM’s Quality Standards
- Developing construction cost estimates and estimates of technical efforts for projects
- Preparing reports and other documentation for clients, review agencies and the public
- Project management responsibilities including financial, quality and schedule management of projects
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering + ten years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience or education
- Licensed Professional Engineer in New York &/or New Jersey
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ideally over 15 Years in transportation structures design and construction with recent structural design experience
- Master’s Degree in appropriate engineering discipline is preferred
- Ideal candidate will have recent experience in delivering projects for a diverse client base in New York including the New York Metro agencies
- Familiarity with local Bridge Design Guidelines, Specifications and Technical Standards
- Experience in successfully managing structural projects
- Demonstrated track record of delivering a range of technical projects from new build to rehabilitation
- A working knowledge of Finite Element analysis and modelling
- Familiarity with seismic design, structural codes, building codes, bridge design guidelines, specifications and technical standards
- Experience in participating in multi-disciplinary engineering projects, with ability to manage and coordinate supporting design inputs: drainage, roadway, lighting, aesthetics, etc
- Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
