Functional Database Manager

Savantage Solutions is seeking a Functional Database Manager to join our technical team. This position will lead a team of system operators, help desk personnel, application administrators, and DBAs in providing Monitoring and Production support of a mission-critical government IT system. 

Duties and Responsibilities

• 24x7 production database administration, support, and monitoring of a federal Oracle installation to ensure a stable, proactive environment.
• Monitor and mitigate security vulnerabilities. Implement security measures to meet/maintain STIG requirements and best practices.
• Execution of an end-to-end technical refresh consisting of stand-up of an Oracle 19 RAC database installation on RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 8 and migration of the existing 12.2 RAC database environment to the new hardware/database.
• Plan, test and document Oracle client installations and upgrades for implementation in Citrix and virtual desktop environments.
• Write/implement shell scripts to monitor Oracle RAC availability, space utilization, alert logs, and trace files on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Monitor and maintain database incidents using Oracle tools (ADDM, ADRCI, TFA, etc.) and custom scripts.
• Schedule and perform maintenance/patching for all database, grid, and client instances.
• Monitor and maintain database related cron jobs to create and maintain a stable, clutter free environment and file system.
• Maintain and configure user accounts to include proper grants of profiles, roles, and privileges.
• Implement database architecture/schema changes as required by software development and sustainment requirements.
• Monitor, test and tune disaster recovery and RMAN backup processes as needed.
• Monitor and tune Oracle server memory as needed.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

The candidate must have:

• Eligibility for Secret Clearance
• 8+ years of related work experience
• Significant Experience and familiarity with multiple items listed below:
  • Oracle DB, Teradata DB
  • SQL, PL/SQL
  • At least 5 years of experience managing a medium to large Oracle RAC installation in a production environment
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux
  • Apache Tomcat and comparable Linux-based Web Server experience is a plus
• One Foundational certification, such as:
  • Cloud Plus (Cloud+)
  • Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
  • Security Plus (Security+)
  • GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC)
  • Note:  A BS degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science, from an ABET accredited or CAE designated institution fulfills the foundational certification requirement for this position.

  • Oracle DBA Certified Associate (OCA)
  • Oracle DBA Certified Professional (OCP)

Education and Certifications:

The candidate must have:

• BA/BS degree

• One IGC CEC Residential certification such as:

$145k - $175k (based on the National Capital Region)
