About the Team

Workday is looking for a software development engineer with expertise in system deployment automation, automated configuration management tools, development pipeline tools, processes, and workflows, and automated test frameworks. The ideal candidate is also an experienced developer using modern high-level programming languages. The Operations Engineering team provides deployment and configuration infrastructure and associated tools to deploy, configure, and support Workday's broad range of services across multiple platforms.

About the Role

Join a development team responsible for the deployment automation of Workday’s infrastructure and service applications! Participate in maintaining a large-scale Chef service, including the development of support tools and APIs. Additionally, play a key role in designing, implementing, and leading new initiatives related to modernizing our deployment pipelines and supporting containerized applications. Expect ongoing collaboration with multiple development teams across the Workday organization who use or integrate with our services. Follow a production development lifecycle process including specifications, development, testing, and production rollout. Engage and innovate, provide ideas, and develop them into solutions that will provide benefits to service teams across Workday.

About You

Basic qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proficiency in Python or Ruby for development.
  • Hands-on experience with configuration management using tools like Chef.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead features and technical strategies through implementation and support phases.
  • Familiarity with deploying and running applications in containerized environments.
  • Foundational understanding of container orchestration principles and practical experience with Kubernetes deployment or management concepts.
  • Experience implementing GitOps methodologies and tools for maintaining infrastructure and application deployments.


Other qualifications:

  • Knowledge of multiple programming languages.
  • Experience working within Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong system-level experience with Linux environments.
  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with large-scale distributed systems.
  • Understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines and tools.
  • Familiarity with declarative infrastructure tools such as ArgoCD.
  • Understanding of Kubernetes networking, storage, and security standards.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

The annualized base salary ranges for the primary location and any additional locations are listed below.  Workday pay ranges vary based on work location. As a part of the total compensation package, this role may be eligible for the Workday Bonus Plan or a role-specific commission/bonus,
