JOB SUMMARY
Infusion Therapy Administration:
- Coordinate and administer therapeutic IV treatments and infusions, including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood products, and supportive care agents, following established protocols and guidelines.
- Monitor patients closely during infusion treatments, promptly addressing and managing any complications or adverse reactions.
- Manage complications associated with infusion therapies, such as adverse reactions or infusion site issues.
- Demonstrate expertise in the insertion, care, and maintenance of intravenous (IV) lines and central venous devices.
- Ensure compliance with infection control practices and standards in the management of vascular access devices.
- Complete ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certification within the first year of employment.
- Maintain AHA BLS certification.
- Performs the lead job duties
Patient Assessment and Management of Care:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients before, during, and after infusion therapy to evaluate their overall health and response to treatment.
- Provide thorough education to patients and their caregivers on the purpose of infusion therapy, potential side effects, and self-care measures.
- Work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive comprehensive education and proper resources tailored to their care needs.
Lab Testing and Result Management:
- Analyze and interpret laboratory reports related to patients' oncology status, ensuring timely communication of findings to the healthcare team.
- Monitor pertinent lab results to assess patients' eligibility and qualification for specific therapies, collaborating with the provider to adjust treatment plans accordingly.
- Maintain certifications on all lab equipment to perform Point-of-Care (POC) testing for quick turnaround of CBCs, INRs, urinalysis testing, and blood glucose testing.
- Demonstrate expertise in conducting POC testing, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results for immediate clinical decision-making.
- Uphold quality control measures and adhere to regulatory standards in performing POC testing.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, documenting infusion therapy details, vital signs, nursing assessments, and interventions.
- Ensure adherence to documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
Patient Care: Identifies opportunities to improve patient care based on feedback from staff and customers.
- Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention.
