Job Description
The Chemistry department is seeking candidates to hire as Student Laboratory Assistants. The Laboratory Assistant will assist the Laboratory Manager in preparing and maintaining all equipment, reagents and inventory required for Chemistry Department Courses. This position would work a minimum of 3 hours/week up to 10 hours/week. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Clean and store lab glassware and equipment. Clean and stock lab spaces for course work
- Inventory and organize chemicals, consumables and hard goods
- Setup and tear down weekly lab equipment demonstrations; answer student queries
- Make solutions. Keep accurate records
Qualifications
- Completion of CHM 116L and 251L with a passing grade, required
- Demonstrated experience, including courses, working in a laboratory environment
- STEM majors, preferred
- Hours of work: Ideally, fixed, 3-hour blocks each week, same day every week, during the day and some evenings, Monday through Friday. Some flexibility is possible
- Additional, optional hours may be available during school breaks
- Physical Demands: Able to lift 20 lbs
- Able to discern varied colors
- Able to execute verbal and written directions
- Able to stand and work for three hours
- Able to climb two steps
