Responsible for preparing lesson plans and instructing preschool-age children utilizing Traditional and Montessori teaching methods designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Prepares classroom environment and attends in-service trainings;
- Prepares classroom for daily activities including pre and post-teaching activities;
- Organizes and leads activities designed to promote physical, mental, and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, technology lessons, and field trips;
- Teaches socially acceptable behavior, employing techniques such as behavior modification and positive reinforcement;
- Develop effective partnerships with the community resulting in better services to students and families;
- Monitors students to ensure their safety and well-being;
- Plans, prepares, and delivers effective Traditional and Montessori classroom curriculums;
- Prepares classroom lesson plans and coordinates activities with other education staff;
- Coordinates student transportation;
- Evaluates student’s academic progress through formal and informal assessment tools;
- Maintains effective communication system with parents of Pre-k students to inform of child’s progress, incident reports, referrals, or calendar updates;
- Maintains current on instructional service delivery mechanisms and implements curriculum changes as required;
- Implements cultural integration delivery into the curriculum;
- Monitors and guides classroom behavior and resolves issues and conflicts;
- Other position-related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field and two (2) years’ experience in teaching children ages 0-5; Montessori Certified in Early Childhood (3 – 6 years); or be willing to enroll in Montessori training course to attain certification within one (1) year; Must possess valid driver’s license and be insurable; Must be able to attain First Aid/CPR certification within 6 months of hire; and must be able to successfully pass a post offer drug screen and criminal history background check.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of early childhood development principles and developmentally appropriate educational practices; knowledge of Traditional and Montessori Curriculum, ability to plan, manage, and evaluate curriculum; Knowledge of MS Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; Excellent interpersonal skills and service standards with adults and children; Ability to maintain good community and staff relations; Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and model unwavering ethical behavior; Ability to work with families from various socio-economic backgrounds; Ability in delivering curriculum; Knowledge of public elementary school functions; Ability to work with a team of instructional aides, internal cultural partners, and external consultants; Ability to work independently and in a team setting; Ability to adapt to multi-projects and challenging assignments; Outgoing personality and able to work with the public; Ability to be culturally aware and sensitive to the needs of Native American communities; Ability to be detailed oriented; ability to be self-motivated and exercise independent judgment; Ability to adequately prioritize and administer daily activities; Excellent time management and organizational skills.
