Department Overview
Gas Operations is focused on ensuring the safe and reliable flow of natural gas to our customers. As a whole, Gas Operations is responsible for all aspects of PG&E's gas distribution and transmission operations, including planning, engineering, maintenance and construction, restoration and emergency response.
The Station Engineering – HPR & Components team is responsible for leading the Engineering and Design of dual asset HPR/farm taps and regulator station component replacement/installation.
Position Summary
This position is represented by Engineers and Scientists of California (ESC) and is subject to collective bargaining.
This position is part of a highly motivated engineering and technical team of engineers, senior engineers, and senior consulting engineers reporting to the Station Engineering Supervisor in the Station Engineering organization.
The Senior Gas Distribution Engineer will be responsible for the scoping, engineering and design of capital distribution and dual asset station projects, provide technical field support and assist in special engineering projects related to station and gas regulation engineering.
PG&E is providing the monthly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity. This position is subject to collectively bargained hourly wage rates.
The monthly rate for this position ranges from $12,356.00 to $15,874.00. Under the terms of the collective bargaining agreement, the starting monthly rate for this position is subject to collectively bargained wage increases.
Job Responsibilities
- Act as Responsible Engineer for assigned projects requiring PE approval.
- Safety: incorporate safety into work practice for design review and for engineering staff
- Support with Gas design projects such as reg station components, HPRs, and distribution meter sets.
- Engineering pre-design: perform site visits with other PG&E departments to confirm the feasibility of the proposed design.
- Ensure all engineering designs meet applicable Industry standards, federal codes and PG&E gas standards.
- Work collaboratively with other PG&E groups and organizations that are part of the project team including GSP, PLE, Project Management, Land, Environmental, Customer Care, Gas Control and Construction to ensure the success of the design project
- Explore and implement innovative solutions that will assure the quality of the station engineering and design projects and assure that they are completed on time, on budget and provides best in class engineering design.
- Develop and define project scope and objectives.
- Effectively complete multiple projects concurrently.
- Represent and promote the project and its contribution to company goals.
- Represent PG&E to government agencies as required for assigned projects.
Qualifications
Minimum:
- A Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology.
- Minimum 8 years of work experience in engineering and design
- Valid California P.E. (Professional Engineer) license

- Valid California P.E. (Professional Engineer) license in Civil, Structural, or Mechanical

- Fluent in the use of current company tools, including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and SAP
- Prior gas engineering and design experience.
- Field experience with maintenance, construction, and engineering of gas distribution systems.
- Knowledge and understanding of gas industry rules and regulations (49 CFR192)
- Knowledge and understanding of PG&E Gas Standards
