About the role

The CPA is responsible for determining nutrition and medical eligibility of WIC applicants through a nutrition and health assessment.  This certification process includes anthropometric and hematologic measurements, completion of a computerized application, creation of a food package, nutrition education and counseling, breastfeeding education and support as appropriate, making referrals, and written documentation of the certification and nutrition process. The CPA is responsible for developing the local agency nutrition education program including completion of the annual Local Agency Nutrition Education Plan and evaluation and maintenance of the local agency nutrition education inventory.  

Essential Job Duties:

  1. Practices professionally in a manner consistent with legal and ethical standards including WIC regulations. 
  2. Conducts complete nutritional assessments of WIC participants.
  3. Works competently within the INWIC database.  
  4. Plans and evaluates participant-centered nutrition education, including individual, family and group discussions. 
  5. Demonstrates a collaborative approach – is a team player. Seeks ways to support and assist other members of the team. 
  6. Prepares nutrition education materials such as pamphlets, recipes and slide presentations for use in program clinics. 
  7. Educates participants and their families regarding food available through the WIC program, nutrients provided by these foods and additional foods required to assure satisfaction of complete nutritional needs. 
  8. Advises participants on additional community resources available. 
  • Education: Registered Dietician or Registered Nurse required 
  • Experience: Management experience preferred; background in family services, public health or maternal infant nutrition and breastfeeding highly desired.
