About the role

Job Summary:
The position of GGL Senior BDO is responsible for developing small business relationships by offering Government Guaranteed products. The officer will gather credit information on current and potential borrowers, negotiate, analyze and coordinate the approval and closing of major and complex Government Guaranteed loans.

The position will be focused on negotiating credit terms, such as costs, loan repayment methods, and collateral specifications. Negotiate interest rate structure to be consistent with bank policies and procedures and be competitive with current market rates.

• Responsibilities and Duties: Work independently to develop and solicit new business from present and prospective clients for Government Guaranteed loan products.
• The GGL Senior BDO is responsible for attaining established Bank and department goals through active participation in promoting the SBA and USDA loan product lines with bank officers and assisting officers on their call programs.
• Analyze credits, understand Government Guaranteed loan program eligibility, and present qualified opportunities to the bank.
• Complete loan applications, gather financial information, and work with customers throughout the application and closing process.
• Handle negotiations and credit assessments on an independent basis and appropriately identify customer and transaction credit risks.
• Work with Underwriting and the GGL team to assist in moving the request through application, underwriting, closing and related servicing activities, while ensuring that all Government Guaranteed loan program requirements are met.
• Responsible for understanding both SBA and USDA Standard Operating Procedures, Government Guaranteed loan program eligibility and the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.
• Interface with other managers, bank staff, Commercial and Business Bankers to provide the teamwork and knowledge needed to develop and maintain awareness of the GGL Line of Business.
• Establish strong referral network and relationships with commercial real estate brokers, loan brokers CPAs, accountants, lawyers etc.: to solicit new Government Guaranteed loan program leads.
• Direct calling on third party groups (CDCs, and other government agencies) throughout assigned geographic markets in a direct effort to develop credit enhanced loan leads.
• Once loan process is completed, work with appropriate stakeholders to seamlessly hand off the customer for ongoing relationship management.
• Manage, coach, mentor and train GGL Lender I’s as needed to elevate and develop less experienced GGL Lender I’s into GGL Lender II’s.
• Assist fellow GGL Lender I and GGL Lender II staff members resolving complicated issues and bringing them to a satisfactory resolution.
• Provide leadership to correct errors and make recommendations for changes to prevent future errors affecting the loan guaranty.
• Attention to regulatory requirements and compliance training applicable to position (Bank Secrecy Act, Customer Information Privacy ETC)
• Integrity, discretion, and respect for confidential information are essential.

Job Skills and Qualifications:
• Ten (10) + years of Government Guaranteed Lending experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Finance, Accounting, or Economics; MBA preferred.
• Excellent communication skills required for major contact with customers, executive management, and the public often involving difficult negotiations and requiring skill and resourcefulness in maintaining good will toward the Company.
• Superior business development, customer relations, and decision-making skills essential.
• Must have thorough knowledge of bank policies and procedures.
