Middle School Musical Director

The Music Director for our Middle School Musical will be responsible for teaching music, helping with blocking for musical numbers, working with Drama Director to plan and execute rehearsals. Engaging and motivating students throughout the rehearsal process and promoting music theater in the ICS community is also essential. Advanced piano skills are required.

Requirements

GENERAL RESPONSIBILIT

• Formulates objectives for upcoming musicals, coordinating with the Director of Performing Arts, the MS Stage Director and the MS Principal
• Helps the MS Drama Director with theater related activities and requirements including but not limited to: auditions, planning cast party, evening rehearsals and dinners, costumes, props, coordination with parent volunteers
• Keeps abreast of new ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops and attending community and professional performances
• Remains knowledgeable of licensing and rights regulations
• Adheres to the rules and regulations of Indian Creek School
• Assumes responsibility for ongoing care of equipment and facilities being used. Maintains equipment and keeps an accurate inventory of needs and usage and storage
• Organizes and schedules practice sessions on a regular basis with the Middle School Drama Director
• Applies discipline in a firm and positive manner
• Ensures that facility regulations are understood and enforced
• Emphasize safety precautions and uses accepted training and injury procedures
• Conducts oneself and teams in an ethical manner during rehearsals and performances
• Respond in a timely manner to all parent and student emails

TEACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans rehearsals, casting and performance with vocal health and development of singers at the forefront
• Teaches age-appropriate singing technique
• Teaches music for all characters and groups in each production
• Lead all rehearsals and performances with Stage Director
• Coordinates with Choreographer and Stage Director on all music numbers during each rehearsal
