The R&S Senior Scientist I manages the know-how in the Architectural, Construction, and Printing & Packaging market segments and acts as the technical expert in this specific application field.  This role develops applications, both for existing and new products, and identifies needs in the market to share with the internal organization

Major Responsibilities:

  • A competent operating professional, capable of modest technical leadership
  • Possesses requisite technical knowledge to execute moderately complex assignments; can design tests, processes and suggest new technical approaches
  •  More independent approaches  to finding solutions. Utilizes broader resource base to solve problems
  •  Primary focus is on team goals; influences project direction by providing technical input to the planning and decision making process
  • May supervise assignments of lower level technical staff toward achievement of project goals
  • Expected to communicate findings/convey technical understanding to a wide range of internal & external customers.  Interacts and collaborates with cross-functional groups
  • Has understanding of department technical goals and provides services that substantially affect the units' results and are of high value.  Makes and implements recommendations with internal approval.
  • Has higher level of involvement in safety improvement activities (reviews, training, etc.) and could lead safety activities to ensure the safest possible work environment

What You Offer:

Basic Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent with 11+ years of relevant industry experience OR: 
  • Associates degree with 6+ years of relevant industry experience OR:
  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years of relevant industry experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic education (degrees in Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field; experience preferably in coating and/or adhesives laboratories)

  • Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience
  • Ph.D. with 0 years of experience

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge in the formulation and testing of raw materials for coatings, and application methods for formulated systems within their defined application area
  • Good project management skills
