Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leads a global team of engineers during concept & design phase of a platform product (or platform technology).  The design phase is completed after product design validation (DV) testing is fully passed. In case of a technology development (TDP), until a pre-defined TRL/MRL level has been reached. The industrialization of the platform product (and product validation PV) will then run in the regions.  The team is comprised of engineers from all regions as it concerns global platform development. 
  • Responsible for the product platform definition according the 4 steps of platform creation: Segmentation, Segment Definition, Project Allocation and Generation Definition.  This in close cooperation with global product management, regional peers and stakeholders. 
  • Works closely with the regions to define the required development resources.  During the design phase of the project (until design validation is complete) the required resources will be contracted to the project and report operationally (for what is concerned tasks & priorities) to the global engineering manager. 
  • Responsible for the engineering deliverables to the project (till DV complete) 
  • Ownership over the platform product RDO.  Also after DV is completed and in sustaining phase the product RDO will dotted line report to the global engineering manager platforming. 
  • Ensures and drives a strong inter-regional and global collaboration between the members of the team. 
  • Fosters a culture of open communication and cooperation. Defines the optimal organizational structure for the team to drive efficiency and speed. 
  • Works closely with the functional engineering leaders to streamline work packages and to align priorities 
  • Stays current with state-of-the-art industry developments on the level of platform creation and modularization concepts (both product & process level) 
  • Works together with manufacturing engineering to drive process platforms and design for manufacturability of the platform 
  • Develops a deep understanding on the E-mobility product lines technically 
  • Organizes technical reviews to analyze and evaluate the product platform logic, the structure and discipline within the teams 
  • Proposes and drives additional global processes or work methods to drive platforming 
  • Contributes to the definition of the E-mobility product and technology roadmaps  
  • Helps define requirements for market or platform products 
  • Drives global requirements management specifically to enable platform efficiency 
  • Develops platform guidelines to help and coach the teams towards product platform thinking and definition 

What your background should look like:

 

  • Master Mechanical / Electromechanical Engineering or similar through experience 
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Automotive Industry (preferably Engineering) 
  • Strong technical understanding  
  • Strong general engineering management skills and project leader skills 
  • Be comfortable in a global context and in a complex organizational matrix with multiple stakeholders 
  • Good business acumen and sense of urgency in context of speed of innovation  
  • Excellent communication skills and reporting skills  
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools
