The Division of Public Safety (DPS) is a team of public safety professionals that work collaboratively with our community to keep Cornell a safe and secure campus to learn and live. The Public Safety Division is comprised of the Public Safety Communications Center, University Police Department, Emergency Management, Clery Compliance, Access Control, Community Response Team, and Public Safety Ambassadors.
Housed as a unit within the Division of Public Safety, Cornell University’s Community Response Team (CRT) objective is to provide an in-person and health-centered response to non-violent 911 crisis calls and thereby reduce the need for police response. The team employs holistic healthcare expertise to de-escalate emergency situations and assist persons in crisis to navigate their way out. CRT plays a key role as the supportive interface linking persons in crisis, the Division of Public Safety, and wraparound services across Cornell and the Ithaca area.
What you will do:
The CRT Supervisor will serve as a role model who leads, mentors, trains, and coaches CRT Coordinators and handles all aspects of performance management in partnership with the Director. This position will be responsible for providing the day-to-day supervisory direction to the staff in the department. They will be responsible for continually striving to adapt, maintain, and improve the delivery of quality community focused services to the Cornell community.
The CRT Supervisor will be responsible for call response as needed. This position is expected to work a variable schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays and is based upon the needs of the department.

Some other important qualifications for the position include:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or other Human Services related field and 2-4 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
- Ability to work a variable schedule that includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Experience in dealing with highly sensitive matters.
- Possess sound judgement and integrity.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and in written communication.
- Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds.
- Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members.
- Knowledge of collaborative techniques and coordinated community response models.
- Proven experience utilizing evidence-based de-escalation techniques.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license in good standing.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
- Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.
