MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and administering multiple servers, operating systems, and application software for specific operations, departmental support, and mission-critical purposes OR Associates degree in Computer Science or related field and one (1) year administering multiple servers, operating systems, and application software for specific operations, departmental support, and mission-critical purposes OR three (3) years administering multiple servers, operating systems, and application software for specific operations, departmental support, and mission-critical purposes.
Proven strong system administration skills.
Demonstrable knowledge of large-scale systems of storage (SAN, NAS, CIFS, NFS, iSCSI, etc.) and virtualization (VMware, Citrix).
Demonstrable experience with Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat) and Windows Server (2016, 2019) above the basic system administration level.
Experience with using tools like Wireshark to diagnose protocol issues and identify causes of non-hardware communication failure.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience with NetApp, Citrix, DeepFreeze Cloud, ADFS, CAS, SAML2, DigitalOcean, and Azure.
DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The System Administrator reports to the Managing Senior Systems Engineer and/or Senior Systems Engineers and performs the following duties:
• Provides advanced system administration, analysis, design, and programming functions for all server and workstation systems under their immediate purview.
• Provides advanced application and communications software programming functions for all server and workstation systems under their immediate purview.
• Provides advanced programming and scripting for all server and workstation systems under their immediate purview.
• Provides advanced planning, implementation, and support for the operating system and other software upgrades, authentication services, backup, retention, and recovery procedures, open-source and commercial software integration, and industry standards to enhance enterprise-wide functionality for server and workstation systems under their immediate purview.
• Provides advanced planning, implementation, and support for securing enterprise networks and large-scale server and workstation systems under their immediate purview.
• Provides comprehensive technical documentation for server and workstation production environments under their immediate purview.
• Provides liaison with vendors for all server and workstation systems for maintenance, problem resolution, and upgrades of installed hardware and operating system, application, and communications software under their immediate purview.
• Researches and recommends hardware and software for server and workstation products for individual, departmental and institutional use.
• Works collaboratively with the network infrastructure support staff for maintenance, problem resolution, upgrade of installed communications hardware and software, and implementation of network security hardware, software, and procedures.
• Provides consultative support on server and workstation technology issues to other departmental and college staff.
