The Role

We are seeking a transformative technology leader to serve as the Global Head of Index Build Technology Portfolio. This is a senior leadership role responsible for re-imagining and rebuilding the entire technology platform that powers the S&P Dow Jones Indices business. You will own the vision, strategy, and execution for the full index lifecycle—from initial research and prototyping to high-frequency calculation and global launch.

Your mission is to build a highly scalable, automated, and resilient platform that enables SPDJI to dramatically accelerate its pace of innovation and expand its business into new markets and asset classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop Technical Vision & Strategy: Define and evangelize a long-term technical strategy to modernize the entire index creation, calculation, and rebalancing ecosystem. Your vision will directly enable the growth of the index business.

  • Lead Platform Re-architecture: Spearhead the greenfield re-design and automation of the end-to-end index lifecycle. This includes building common, reusable services for prototyping, back-testing, corporate action processing, and real-time calculation.

  • Drive Engineering Excellence: Foster a culture of high-throughput, engineering excellence inspired by best practices at top technology firms. Implement rigorous standards for code quality, and operational observability.

  • Build and Mentor a World-Class Team: Attract, retain, and develop exceptional engineering talent. You will be a hands-on mentor to senior engineers and managers, guiding their careers and cultivating a culture of innovation and continuous learning.

  • Partner with Business & Product: Act as a senior technology partner to the heads of Product, Index Design & Research, and Operations. Work directly with our most strategic clients to understand their needs and translate complex business requirements into a concrete technical roadmap.

  • Champion Modern Technology: Drive the adoption of a modern, cloud-native technology stack (AWS/GCP), leveraging serverless containerization, and streaming data technologies to build a low-latency, high-availability platform.

What We're Looking For:

Experience:

  • 15+ years of experience in software engineering, with at least 7+ years in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Director, Sr. Director, VP).

  • Demonstrable experience in designing and operating low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems. Direct experience in high-frequency trading (HFT), quantitative finance, market data distribution, or large-scale index construction is strongly preferred.

  • Proven track record of leading complex, multi-year platform modernization and automation initiatives from concept to completion.

Technical Expertise:

  • Deep expertise in cloud architecture on either AWS or Google Cloud Platform. You should be fluent in designing systems using services like Kubernetes (EKS/GKE), serverless functions (Lambda/Cloud Functions), streaming data platforms (Kafka/Kinesis), and scalable databases.

  • Strong command of distributed systems principles and architecture patterns.

  • A firm grasp of SRE principles and experience building highly reliable and observable systems.

Leadership & Business Acumen:

  • An exceptional ability to craft a compelling vision and inspire teams to execute on it.

  • A keen eye for talent and a genuine passion for mentoring engineers and leaders.

  • Outstanding communication skills, with the ability to engage in deep technical discussions with engineers and articulate strategy to executive-level business stakeholders and clients.

  • A strong product mindset with a history of building technology that drives tangible business outcomes.
