About Us

Shooting Stars is a school-based education engagement program for Aboriginal girls and young women. Founded in 2015, Shooting Stars is the primary initiative of Glass Jar Australia, a not-for-profit organisation that comes under the wider umbrella of Netball WA.

Now based within 22 schools across Western Australia and South Australia, Shooting Stars reaches over 1,200 girls and young women, building confidence, cultural identity, and positive connections through engagement activities, health and wellbeing sessions and enrichment programs. The team of staff, most of whom are Aboriginal women, walk alongside the Shooting Stars participants throughout their schooling journeys, while offering support, advocacy, and guidance to ensure they are empowered to make informed decisions and drive their own futures.

Role and Responsibilities:

We are looking to recruit a local leader in the position of Operations Manager, located in the North WA which will encompass the East Kimberley, West Kimberley, Pilbara and Gascoyne.

The Operations Manager (OM) will lead and support the coordinated service delivery playing a key role in the identification and implementation of new partnership opportunities and program innovations. The successful candidate will facilitate, develop and maintain sustainable partnerships to ensure the operational delivery of all agreed outcomes contained within all funding agreements.

A close working relationship with government and non-government sectors, key commercial stakeholders, local Aboriginal communities, and Corporations as well as GJA/Netball WA internal staff and contractors will be essential to the successful achievement of this position’s objectives and continued growth and development of Aboriginal girls across Australia.

  • Grow the impact of program delivery while maintaining the integrity of the Shooting Stars Way, incorporating our values and behaviours
  • Define and role model the culture, values, non-negotiables, and characteristics of the “Shooting Stars Way”, including the method of genuine, two-way collaboration with communities
  • Support the Shooting Stars Regional Managers and Program Coordinators in the regions supporting achievement of designed outcomes aligned with our agreed values and behaviours
  • Identify and create leadership opportunities within schools, communities, and Shooting Stars for young women to aspire to and pursue
  • Strengthen participants’ connection to country and culture, while building community inclusion across programming
  • Identify and build strong stakeholder relationships to ensure continued collaboration within community
  • Overall responsibility for ensuring administration of regional deliverables
  • Undertake research to identify and document the key success factors and characteristics of the Shooting Stars Way service delivery model to align with the key targets of Closing The Gap
  • Assist in the delivery of all and reporting on mandatory and secondary Key Performance Indicators that are required under the Indigenous Advancement Strategy Head Agreement as well as ensure delivery of all requirements under other agreements
  • Focus on building the capacity and sustainability of the team through working with external expertise to facilitate the development of a staff wellbeing, practice, and supervision model, complimenting the Shooting Stars Way
  • Continued development and delivery of a professional development and succession planning framework for staff and management, maximising leadership opportunities for staff
  • Support the Communications Manager to grow GJA brands in a dynamic and vibrant way through identified community engagement initiatives, stakeholders, partners and channels

  • Demonstrated experience in successfully leading values based teams
  • Demonstrated experience in working with at risk, young people in an education, sporting and/or career context
  • A commitment to and experience in advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in education through provision of servic
