Embryologist-Senior (OB-GYN)

The Senior Embryologist provides highly skilled assisted reproductive technology (ART), laboratory technical, and quality control/assurance tasks on a daily basis. Responsible for managing human gametes, embryos, and reproductive tissues and providing input into clinical decisions. Provides increased duties and assistance to the Laboratory Director on daily laboratory operations. Trains and oversees less experienced staff in the ART lab. Works independently in the clinical and research laboratories as delegated by the board-certified Laboratory Director.

• Handles advanced laboratory techniques including gamete/embryo biopsies and cryopreservation. Coordinates biopsied specimens for genetic testing. 
• Coordinates transfers of embryos between facilities, to include paperwork, specimen loading and shipping. 
• Responsible for training and overseeing lower level staff in the ART Laboratory. 
• Oversees all essential clinical ART laboratory tasks, including: gamete and embryo identification, grading, handling, and processing for ART procedures; gamete and embryo culture; insemination; micromanipulation (ICSI, assisted hatching, etc.) Learns new technologies under guidance and supervision of Lab Director. Enters data into electronic health records (EHR).
• Maintains patient laboratory database. 
• Coordinates patient information for gamete and embryo status with physicians, nurses and laboratory personnel. 
• Tracks and complies all data regarding ART laboratory quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC). 
• Performs continuous quality improvement (CQI) and control documentation. 
• Performs equipment maintenance and monitors quality management of the IVF lab. 
• Maintains and revises laboratory protocols under guidance and approval of Laboratory Director.
•  Assist Laboratory Director in the development of new procedures and technologies. 
• Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience

Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences, laboratory sciences, or related majors

Experience

Three (3) years of job-related experience in a reproductive technology laboratory or relevant specialty laboratory is required.  

• Hands-on advanced biological laboratory skills. 
• Advanced Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to deal sensitively and efficiently with members of the public, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. 
• Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy. 
• Self-motivated and directed; ability to multitask and prioritize. 
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other software used for data management. 
• Works as part of a team; able to independently solve problems.
