About the Role:

The Massachusetts Veterans Home at Chelsea is seeking an experienced Director of Facilities to oversee operations across its 17-acre campus, which includes 11 buildings totaling approximately 500,000 square feet. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, compliant, and well-maintained environment that supports high-quality care for our veteran residents.                                                                                                                                                

Major Responsibility Areas:

  1.  – Effectively manage department programs while demonstrating fiscal responsibility and control over spending. 

  1.  – Ensure effective controls over campus Facilities and interdepartmental/interagency collaboration. 

  1.  – Ensure life safety functions of the Facility are effectively managed, have appropriate backup, and are in good working order while maintaining compliance with VA, DPH, and CMS standards, including an accurate Statement of Conditions document that demonstrates all fire safety and other environmental compliance and lists deficiencies and corrective action plans with timelines for completion. 

  1.  – Conduct contract negotiations, oversee the bidding process, and function as Clerk of the Works for capital projects to ensure timely and satisfactory delivery of contractor services. 

  1. – Implement 5-year capital and equipment plans to maintain the environment of care and support modernization/renovation of patient care areas, utilizing Facilities staff to minimize costs.
