About the Role We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to Highspot’s Analytics Platform capability within our Data & Analytics Pillar. This role is responsible for developing and scaling backend services that power our in-app analytics experience, enabling customers with real-time insights into their go-to-market performance. As a key backend engineer, you will work on the architecture, performance, and reliability of our query serving infrastructure.
You will focus on backend innovations, ensuring query performance in our In-Memory OLAP database, optimizing backend APIs, and improving our query transpiler. Partnering across teams, you will enhance system reliability, drive best practices, and mentor engineers in building high-performance backend systems that enable our customers to make data-driven decisions with confidence.

What You'll Do

• Architect and Scale the Analytics Platform – Design and evolve key backend components including database/query optimizations, backend API scalability, and efficient query execution to support real-time insights.
• Ensure Backend Analytics Excellence – Develop and maintain scalable, efficient, and well-governed backend services that serve analytical queries and reports.
• Optimize Query Processing – Guide the querying and processing of analytics data, optimizing for performance, usability, and seamless integration across backend systems.
• Enhance Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) for Data Governance – Improve our RBAC framework to ensure secure and compliant access to analytics data.
• Drive Best Practices and Technical Standards – Establish and advocate for best practices in query optimization, schema evolution, and backend performance tuning.
• Collaborate Across Teams – Work closely with Product, Data Engineering, and AI/ML teams to evolve and optimize backend infrastructure and ensure seamless data integration.
• Mentor and Grow the Team – Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers in backend development, query processing, and database optimizations.
• Operational Excellence – Define and drive SLAs, availability, and performance objectives, ensuring the Analytics Platform meets the needs of our customers.

Your Background

• Backend Engineering Expertise - 7+ years in software engineering with strong experience in backend systems, query engines, and analytics platforms.
• Strong Expertise in Backend Systems & Query Processing – Hands-on experience with OLAP databases, query transpilation, and optimizing query performance.
• Strong Programming and Data Skills – Proficiency in Python, Java, or Go, with deep expertise in SQL, query optimization, and backend API development.
• Cloud-Native & Infrastructure Knowledge – Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform/Pulumi for analytics services and backend scalability.
• Backend-Focused Architectural Leadership – Experience designing scalable analytics-serving platforms and backend query execution workflows.
• Performance and Reliability Mindset – Passion for solving complex backend challenges, ensuring low latency, and high availability.
• Collaboration & Technical Influence – Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams to drive backend improvements.

Base salary range: $166,000 - $272,000. Employees are eligible to receive stock options and may also
