Summary

Promotes quality patient care, comfort, and a safe environment under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Job Duties

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.(Do not delete, move or over-write this statement)
  • Recognizes the patients, their family/designated care partner(s) in providing safe, compassionate and coordinated care based on respect for patient's personal preferences, priorities, needs, and cultural beliefs and values.
  • Communicates with and supports the interprofessional team, patient, family and designated care partners.
  • Provides on-to-one direct observation for safety of assigned patient.
  • Assists patient with designated care activities.
  • Reports observations of changes in patient condition or behavior to appropriate staff.
  • Completes required reports and documentation
  • This position requires providing service to the following age population(s) pediatric through frail elderly in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.
  • May be assigned to the role of virtual safety associates based on campus needs


Minimum Qualifications

  • Interpersonal Relationships - Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Patient Rights - Knowledge of principles and practices associated with the rights and responsibilities of patients and caregivers.
  • Health Information Documentation - Knowledge of the relevance of health information and appropriate documentation methods, ability to record medical histories, symptoms, vital signs, medications, diagnoses, treatment plans, procedures, tests, and medical results in written or electronic form.
  • Patient Safety - Knowledge of the risks faced by patients in a healthcare environment, and the ability to take steps to reduce these risks.
  • Life Support - Knowledge of the process taken to restore and maintain essential physiological functions, and the ability to apply these processes in a patient care situation.
  • Accuracy and Attention to Detail - Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail, ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
  • BLS - Basic Life Support AHA - American Heart Association


Preferred Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Previous related experience preferred


Additional Qualifications

  • CPR certification, completion of Patient/Sitter Companion Program, and/or De-Escalation class preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and the ability to de-escalate patients who are agitated in a way that preserves patient dignity required. Previous experience in the clinical setting preferred. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of Standard Precautions


Physical Demands
Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Examples: Push/pull patients on bed, stretcher (requires 29 lbs. push force), lateral transfers up to 50 lbs. of the patient's weight. Frequent to continuous standing/walking. Patient transporters can walk 8-10 miles per shift. *Patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
