The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and execution of Quality Control (QC) activities, including internal and external inspections, quality audits, and the development, revision, implementation, and enforcement of Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and specifications.
This position supervises NDT Technicians across multiple shifts and works closely with production, engineering, site leadership, vendors, customers, third-party auditors, and other Valmont personnel to ensure products meet or exceed customer expectations and comply with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Valmont quality standards.
The Quality Control Supervisor also supports Site Leadership in identifying opportunities for improvement involving products, processes, suppliers, and customers. The position develops and supports corrective action and continuous improvement initiatives designed to reduce nonconformities, scrap, rework, and quality-related risks.

- Hire, supervise, train, and professionally develop NDT Technicians within the Quality Control Department.
- Provide day-to-day direction and oversight of Quality Control activities across applicable shifts.
- Develop and maintain procedures and work instructions for the inspection of manufactured and purchased products in coordination with QC Technical Coordinators, Engineering, Drafting, customer requirements, and applicable codes and specifications.
- Enforce established quality procedures, specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform and oversee inspections to determine product conformance with customer, industry, and company requirements.
- Observe manufacturing and operating activities throughout product areas to identify quality concerns and opportunities for improvement.
- Develop corrective action plans and follow up with responsible parties to ensure actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
- Conduct internal quality audits of departments and support annual AISC site audits.
- Assist supervisors and leadership in evaluating field issues, customer concerns, and nonconformance data and developing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Analyze manufacturing processes to identify improvement opportunities and evaluate new processes for potential integration into existing quality systems.
- Gather, analyze, maintain, and distribute quality-related data, metrics, and reports.
- Support implementation and ongoing maintenance of the site and division Quality Management System.
- Participate in task forces, committees, and continuous improvement initiatives as the Quality representative.
- Work with suppliers, customers, customer representatives, and third-party auditors to address quality requirements and concerns.
- Interpret applicable codes, standards, specifications, production drawings, and customer requirements.
- Make product and process quality decisions, including identification and disposition of conforming and nonconforming conditions within assigned authority.
- Support efforts to reduce internal scrap, rework, customer complaints, and the risk of shipment of nonconforming product.
- Assist with job scheduling and work order processing from Engineering to Manufacturing as a backup, as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Manager, Regional Quality Manager, or Operations Manager.
Competencies:
- Strong working knowledge of welding inspection, coating inspection, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
