The Health Operations Center Regional Doctor provides high level complex, critical decision and operational support for shipboard medical operations. They support a team of health professionals located in the US, UK, Germany and Australia to provide 24/7/365 medical support to all ships in the Corporation through the globally interconnected regional Health Operations Centers (HOC). They provide clinical, operational, logistical and coordination support to the ship’s doctors and Captains for significant medical events, medevacs, and illnesses and outbreaks of public health concern. They are responsible for developing and updating HOC specific policies, procedures and protocols for medical responses for shipboard incidents, regional medevacs, telemedicine services and Company properties.
They provide 24/7/365 medical cover to support the shipboard emergency response (ERO) for the four North America brands.
They develop partnerships with third party providers that support the network for global fleet medical operations including medevac capabilities, coast guard assets and locations, air ambulance providers, telemedicine support networks, and national and port health authorities.
They conduct ship and shoreside facility operational visits and participate in shipboard initiatives including quality assurance compliance audits and case reviews to support clinical governance activities.
They support guest pre and post cruise needs in coordination with guest services, family assistance and communication teams as necessary.
Job Functions:
GLOBAL HEALTH OPERATIONS CENTERS (HOCs)
- Supports a team of health professionals in the US, UK, Germany and Australia to provide 24/7/365 medical support to all ships in the Corporation through the globally interconnected regional Health Operations Centers (HOC)
- Provides clinical, operational, logistical and coordination support to the ship’s doctors and Captains for significant medical events, medevacs, and illnesses and outbreaks of public health concern.
- Communicates, coordinates and collaborates with the global Fleet Operations Centers, shipboard and shoreside leadership teams and third parties, to provide situational updates and develop proactive plans to ensure the efficient and effective management of events.
- Provides the fleet situational, policy and educational updates to improve operational awareness and efficacy.
- Supports the investigation of significant events to identify lessons learned and implement procedure or process changes for continuous improvement.
- Develops and maintains a global database of shoreside medical providers including hospitals, coast guard assets and locations, rescue centers and air ambulance providers to support the global care and disembarkation of guests and crew.
- Regularly analyses data on HOC activities and uses informatics to drive best practices that improve efficiency and effectiveness of the regional HOCs and brands.
- Provide timely, concise and relevant situational updates to brand Director (or equivalent) and relevant stakeholders.
SHIPBOARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE
- Responsible for the 24/7/365 medical cover to support the HOC and shipboard ERO.
- Supports the shipboard emergency response (ERO) for the four North America.
- Provides management and training for medical staff for shipboard emergencies including outbreaks, communicable illness cases and mass casualty response.
- Participates in Emergency response exercises as the medical subject matter expert.
- Reviews and updates the shipboard medical response team (MRT) protocols incorporating best practices.
- Maintains awareness of global and shipboard public health risks and provides support to the public health team for the prevention and response to public health events of concern such as outbreaks, and communicable illnesses.
GUEST SUPPORT
- Supports guests prior to their cruise with any special medical needs and requests.

POLICY, PROCEDURES AND COMPLIANCE
- Updates policies, procedures and protocols for resuscitation, first response, shipboard incidents, regional medevacs, telemedicine services and Company property medical responses.
- Conducts ship operational visits and communicates findings to relevant stakeholders.
