Your Responsibilities
As a Senior Battery Management System Controls Engineer for John Deere in Moline, IL, you will:
- Lead the design, development, and model-based implementation of battery management system algorithms including state of charge (SOC), state of power (SOP), state of health (SOH), balancing, state machine, charging, thermal management, diagnostics, and safety functions, etc.;
- Lead the integration of model-based battery management system algorithm software code to the rest of the embedded system hand-coded software;
- Lead battery management system algorithm tuning based on application requirements as well as algorithm verification & validation efforts;
- Interface with battery testing team to design relevant software-in-loop, hardware-in-loop and hardware tests;
- Interface with battery modeling team to create model-in-loop simulation for virtual testing of battery management system algorithms as well as to support higher level system simulation (e.g. drivetrain simulation or vehicle simulation);
- Lead the exploration of advanced battery management system algorithms (e.g. SOH estimation using machine learning methods) with deep theoretical understanding;
- Create algorithm design, flow chart, tuning, verification & validation, and associated documentation;
- Interface with battery systems & applications teams to ensure proper battery management features are developed in support of expected battery functionality, performance, safety, and compliance.
- Up to 15% domestic and international travel required. Can live anywhere in the U.S. Up to 100% remote work allowed.
What Skills You Need
- 3 years of experience in developing and implementing state estimation, parameter estimation, and control techniques such as Extended Kalman Filter, Least Squares Regression, Neural Network, or Optimal Control
- 3 years of experience in developing algorithms for battery management system applications such as State of Charge, State of Health, State of Power, Charging, Diagnostics, Balancing or Thermal Estimation
- 2 years of experience in developing and simulating controls-oriented battery models such as electrical, thermal, and aging models for battery algorithms
- 3 years of experience in designing tests for battery algorithm development, parameter tuning, and verification & validation using battery test equipment such as cyclers, environ
