Position Description

The mission of the Anoka County Finance department is to enrich our community by providing quality services and assuring financial integrity. The department has an immediate opening for two Accountants, who will perform various duties relating to grant operations and payroll. The grant operations accountant involves working with County departments to prepare and ensure proper financial reports, adherence to grant terms and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing grants. The payroll accountant involves maintaining knowledge of federal and state payroll laws while ensuring accurate employee costing allocations, resolving payroll discrepancies, and supporting payroll processing. Some of the critical responsibilities of both positions include preparing financial records to ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded, and maintenance of financial records ensuring compliance with governmental standards and internal policies and procedures.

This is a full-time, exempt, hybrid position. First-round interviews will take place the week of February 24th, 2025, and second-round interviews will take place the week of March 3rd, 2025, for those selected to move forward in the hiring process. 

Pay & Benefits

  • Salary: $60,819.20 to $72,966.40 ($29.24 to $35.08 per hour).

  • 2025 Anoka County Salary Schedule Grade 32: $60,819.20 to $85,113.60 ($29.24 to $40.92 per hour).

Work Location

  • This position will work at the Anoka County Government Center, located at 2100 3rd Ave, Anoka, MN 55303.

  • This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work, with some days working remotely and some days working in the office.

  • Remote work opportunities may be available after the successful completion of a probationary period.

  • Expected work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare and submit required reports to federal and state agencies for grants, payroll, taxes, or other items as identified.

  • Maintain financial records and ensure that financial transactions are properly recorded.

  • Ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger.

  • Prepare accounting transactions and schedules while ensuring all transactions follow GAAP/GASB standards.

  • Analyze trends in all areas of revenue, expenses, payroll, or grants.

  • Ensure the adequacy of the accounting system as the basis for reporting to management. Consider the need for new or changed controls.

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to a subordinate group.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Needed

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years (2,080 annual hours) of job-related experience.

  • In lieu of the required education, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
