ICF is seeking talented Senior Power Markets Consultant to support our growing team and client base as they plan for the rapidly changing energy world of today and tomorrow.  This role is ideal for professionals with 3+ years of experience in US power market analysis, forecasting, or economics.

As an analyst, you will be responsible for using detailed power grid models such as PROMOD and PSLF to develop asset proformas and financial projections that will be used to make investment decisions in renewable and conventional power plants. To perform this work, you will develop, explain, and defend power price forecasts, write technical reports to communicate findings to clients, and build deep expertise in topics affecting US power markets.

You will have a direct and wide-ranging impact on the strategic and investment decisions of some of the largest and most innovative firms in the market.  In this practice area, ICF’s typical client base includes owners and developers of power plants, banks, and investors, and occasionally government entities and other stakeholders.  We are looking for individuals who are intellectually driven and love to challenge themselves, and who balance strong analytical skills with excellent communication.

ICF’s practice covers all major market areas in the US, including ERCOT, PJM, ISONE, NYISO, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, and SERC, with specialized teams serving each region.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze market developments including new technologies, new policies, and changes in underlying economic conditions for their impacts on the power grid

  • Present the results of our analysis and market expertise in written reports, calls, whitepapers, and other presentations

  • Develop deep expertise in topics affecting US power markets, including market structure, fuels, technologies, policy and legal structures, finance, and other market drivers

  • Collaborate with other consultants and analysts to enhance ICF’s offerings and proprietary models and databases, and to offer broad integrated solutions for our clients

  • Support sales and client development efforts with market research, proposal development and thought leadership on evolving energy dynamics and themes.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, or a related quantitative-focused field.  Candidates majoring in other fields must clearly demonstrate equivalent quantitative aptitude

  • 3+ years of work experience in power markets analysis, power plant economics, price forecasting, trading, or a related discipline (experience with one of the major market areas in the US: ERCOT, PJM, ISONE, NYISO, MISO, SPP, CAISO, WECC, and/or SERC)

Preferred Skills:

  • Master’s degree in any of the aforementioned fields or closely related areas

  • Experience with R, Python, and/or other coding languages

  • Candidates with specific experience using ABB’s PROMOD® model are highly encouraged to apply

  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office (specifically Excel)

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Professional Skills:

  • Strong organizational and project management skills

  • Ability to work under deadlines in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and desire to learn beyond what is required for daily tasks

  • Ability to work independently and make quick decisions when needed

  • Positive attitude and ability to collaborate effectively with others
