Job Duties

Western State Hospital is seeking a full time Recreational/Vocational Programmer/PSR Tech Lead who will assist in the development and implementation of training /therapeutic interventions within the psychosocial treatment program. To provide community recreation programming and vocational training available to all clients of Western State Hospital.

This position will plan and conduct 12 - 14 hours of psychosocial rehabilitation interventions per week, according to approved schedules; assists supervisor in planning, organizing, and evaluating classes for community recreation program; conducts 10-12 hours of community recreation programming during afternoon and evening hours; supervises 4-8 hours per week of instruction for clients in vocational training; assists in completing canteen functions in the absence of other canteen employees requiring food preparation, sanitation, use of cash register, grill, and fryer; and will maintain documentation and statistics of attendance of community recreation programming.

Minimum Qualifications

- High School diploma or equivalent
- valid Virginia Driver's License
- demonstrated understanding of the principles and practices of recreational activities
- ability to assess, plan, supervise, and evaluate recreational programs for effectiveness
- experience modeling positive and collaborative work behaviors
- ability to adapt to various demands and demonstrates a willingness to learn
- ability to perform essential functions of this position, which are: repetitive walking; visual acuity to observe and report changes in patient's behaviors on a continuous basis; bending, lifting and reaching overhead to position, restrain, transfer, transport or escort clients and to assist clients to perform activities. Will complete ServSafe Training
