Position Summary

The Senior Software Development Engineer will design, build, and support backend services and integrations that enable Clinical Shared Services technical engineering work across clinical platforms (including UM/CM-related workflows). This role focuses on delivering secure, high-quality, cloud-native microservices and APIs, improving engineering and delivery practices, and partnering closely with Clinical products, QA, architects, vendors, and production support to meet clinical, operational, and compliance requirements.

You will contribute to modernization initiatives, troubleshoot complex production issues through root-cause analysis, and improve automation and delivery practices that increase reliability, reduce risk, and improve time-to-market in a regulated healthcare environment. This is an individual contributor role.

Required Qualifications

  • 7 to 10+ years of related experience
  • Demonstrated accountability for delivering outcomes on time, with high quality, and with clear communication to business and IT stakeholders
  • Ability to understand business drivers and architectural context to align backlog/work to the highest-value outcomes, and to manage cross-team dependencies to reduce timeline/cost risk
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including defect/issue triage and root-cause analysis in production environments
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills to influence across cross-functional stakeholders (business, architects, QA, vendors, production support)
  • Experience building or supporting secure integrations, including certificate management/rotation and secure secrets handling
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery routines (planning, standups, retrospectives, demos)
  • Experience driving process improvements (engineering best practices, release readiness, quality/security practices)
  • Proven strength in production oversight, root-cause analysis, and driving resolution of issues, delays, or outages to protect SLAs/availability and business continuity
  • Experience proactively identifying process improvements and cost-savings through DevSecOps practices and thoughtful adoption of new technology
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling and automated deployments (e.g., GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, or similar)
  • Strong engineering fundamentals (coding standards, guidelines, and best practices) and a customer-first mindset in building reliable solutions
  • Experience designing and building APIs in a microservices architecture
  • Hands-on cloud experience (GCP, AWS, or Azure), including deploying and operating services in cloud environments
  • Experience with relational databases and data troubleshooting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare domain experience, especially clinical platforms supporting Utilization Management (UM) and/or Care Management (CM)
  • Exposure to clinical platforms and workflows supporting UM/CM
  • Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform; experience deploying services
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes concepts and microservice best practices / distributed systems
  • Experience with pub/sub or event streaming (Kafka or similar)
  • Familiarity with monitoring and diagnostics tooling (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace)
  • 5+ years of software development experience with a backend focus (e.g., Java, Spring Boot, APIC, IIB, Microservices, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of network fundamentals and connectivity troubleshooting (DNS, TLS/SSL, routing concepts, firewall/security group rules)
  • Experience diagnosing integration and connectivity failures across environments (e.g., API gateway to downstream services, identity/auth flows, vendor endpoints)
  • Understanding of authentication and authorization patterns (OAuth2/OIDC, SSO concepts, token-based auth) and troubleshooting them in practice
  • Familiarity with security best practices for cloud deployments (least privilege, service accounts/IAM, secure ingress/egress patterns)
