POSITION GOAL
Enhance student achievement by assisting the Area Superintendent and all principals in the effective operation of the budget and accounting functions according to district, professional, and legal standards.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Business Analyst shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:
- Prepare annual Area Departments annual budget and make any necessary amendments.
- Provide periodic recap of all budgets in area schools and keep the Area Superintendent and Directors informed on the status of school budgets.
- Ensure class size targets are met by monitoring and analyzing class size data and providing monthly reports as required by the Assistant Director, School Budget Support.
- Conduct inservice workshops on budgeting, FTE procedures, computer training and school advisory groups, in coordination with the Talent Development Department.
- Support dispersal of accurate funding by providing assistance to principal or designee in preparing, monitoring, and correcting FTE reports.
- Provide assistance to principal, bookkeeper, or designee regarding Internal Funds.
- Provide direction in the projection, planning and preparation of budgeting concepts for the annual school budgets through district level participation on financial committees relative to position control, area budget conferences, HRMS, class size reduction, and financial systems implementation/upgrades.
- Analyze position, budget, accounting and personnel documents as submitted by principals and take whatever steps necessary to rectify or remedy items which do not conform to the established guidelines.
- Act as liaison between principals and County Budget Office.
- Develop a detailed database of all aspects of district administration, including personnel, business, instruction and other administrative services.
- Analyze school-level operations and services and advise the Director, Budget in such matters as cost effectiveness.
- Assist in the preparation of Board items and coordinate the preparation of materials for presentation to the School Board.
- Prepare financial impact statements based upon changes to budget concepts resulting from newly adopted School Board proposals.
- Analyze schools' month-end budget status reports.
- Review and correct schools' annual projected budget for the Area Superintendents' signature.
- Review and correct all area schools' amendments for the Area Superintendent.
- Serve on committees to improve procedures which will enable principals to monitor individual school budgets and will benefit the schools.
- Develop computer templates to be used by schools to monitor budgets and other related budget activities.
- Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and nondiscrimination policies of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
- Participate, successfully, in the training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.
- Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
- Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.
- Follow federal and state laws, as well as School Board policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, Budget.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- An earned bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of eight (8) years experience and/or training in the field related to the title of the position.
- Computer skills are required for the position.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Preferred degree majors include accounting, finance, public administration or related field.
- Prefer experience within the Budget, Accounting, or Management Audits Department.
- A certificate in public accounting or management accounting and public school experience preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
SIGNIFICANT CONTACTS-frequency, contact, purpose
Work closely with Area Superintendents, Area Directors, and appropriate District staff at all levels regarding budgetary issues, position control, class size reduction, and instructional personnel management.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
