Company Description
The San Francisco City Attorney’s Office is looking for a qualified and motivated legal secretary to join and jointly support its Land Use and Real Estate & Finance Teams.
Appointment Type: Temporary Provisional (TPV), limited to no more than 3 years in duration. This temporary position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process, is considered "at will" and shall serve at the discretion of the Department Head. This position will be subject to the Permanent Civil Service examination process. Successful participation in the Permanent Civil Service examination and selection through an open competitive process is needed in order to be considered for the permanent appointment.

About the Land Use and Real Estate & Finance Teams
The Land Use Team and Real Estate & Finance Team often work collaboratively on projects. The teams share an office suite and share legal secretaries and paralegals.
Land Use Team
The Land Use Team is a group of twelve attorneys, two paralegals, and one legal secretary. The Team’s practice includes advice work, drafting and advising on legislation, and litigation. Members of the team serve as general counsel for the City’s Planning, Public Works, and Building Inspection departments, and advise the oversight commissions for those departments.
The Team works on public and private project land use entitlements. Attorneys advise City agencies on projects that involve planning and zoning laws; housing requirements, including affordable housing issues; environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act; building permits and Building Code matters; subdivision and condominium maps; streets and sidewalks, including encroachments, street closures and street vacations; takings law and eminent domain; development impact fees and nexus studies; and historic preservation. Attorneys also draft legislation that addresses these kinds of land use issues for the Board of Supervisors as well as specific client departments, as requested.
Real Estate & Finance Team
The Real Estate & Finance Team is a group of eleven attorneys (nine real estate and two public finance attorneys), two paralegals, and two legal secretaries. The Team oversees the legal aspects of real estate, debt financing, and other business transactions for the City. The real estate attorneys work on a wide range of real estate transactions and property management
