Overview of Position:

The bedside delivery pharmacy technician provides delivery of prescription medication to patients at bedside. Must offer the bedside delivery program to patients within the hospital and assist the pharmacist with the preparation of prescriptions in an efficient and accurate manner with proficient use of pharmacy computer system and hospital electronic medical records system. Must be able to accurately identify medications by use of NDC number and count and neatly label large volumes of prescriptions. Delivers prescription to patients’ bedsides within the hospital and/or to the appropriate unit/station. Helps maintain appropriate prescription inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1.    Offers bedside delivery program to patients and explains the benefits of the service.
2.    Communicates with patient in a professional manner, displays empathy and understanding for all patient encounters, refers patients, if needed, to appropriate services based on patient encounter, such as behavioral health, spiritual care
3.    Hand delivers prescriptions promptly to patient’s bedside or appropriate nursing station within the hospital, coordinates medication payment
4.    Coordinates care with a multi-disciplinary team, communicates directly with patients and caregivers in the course of performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required. Collects payment from patient for prescription and non-prescription products.
5.    Navigates electronic medical record to enroll patients into the program, document workflow, and communicate with other healthcare providers.
6.    Provides consults to participating units regarding prior authorizations and offer formulary-based recommendations for alternative medications, offers and uses available copay assistance cards to help patients with cost of medication
7.    Builds positive working relationships and communicates with other caregivers and patients in an effective and positive manner.
8.    Responsible for program performance in assigned care area, including patient volumes served and patient experience indicators, serving as a valued resource to identify discharge prescription coverage issues and assist in their resolution.
9.    Transfers non-controlled prescription refills to patient’s pharmacy of choice 
10.    Identifies potential medication-related access problems and works with patients and the multi-disciplinary team to solve these problems in an efficient and patient-centered manner, assist patients with various forms of financial assistance that may be available.
11.    Works with the pharmacy leadership teams to identify areas of opportunity for improved patient experience. Assists manager in creating, implementing and monitoring policies, procedures, and quality control programs in assigned area.
12.    Attends and actively participates in multi-disciplinary team huddles and meetings in a collaborative manner.
13.    Performs all job responsibilities of certified pharmacy technician as appropriate.
14.    Appropriately uses information systems, technology, and automation to complete assigned tasks.


QUALIFICATIONS
1.    High school graduate or equivalent required. Must be Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician and registered with the State of Ohio Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Pharmacy Technician. 
2.    Sound interpersonal, decision making and problem-solving skills. Good listening, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work under pressure.   
3.    Ability to determine dosages using basic pharmaceutical calculations.  Must be able to interpret prescriptions.  
4.    Must have computer skills and be able to accurately process prescriptions through the pharmacy’s software system and to document the beside delivery program functions within the hospital’s electronic healthcare records.
