What’s the role?
The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for the installation, preventive maintenance and general upkeep of leading-edge ZEISS semiconductor systems and OEM components. The position is field based with the primary location in the Hillsboro, OR area and is in particular tied to our OEM partner / customer. This position will initially require substantial international travel for training purposes.

Here’s what you’ll do:
Responsible customer service representative at the end customer
Selects from alternative service scenarios such as replace components, complex repairs and maintenance work on optical systems, the appropriate solution and perform these scenarios according to internal work instructions •
Advises and supports customers in service and install issues
Process field service request by mail, phone or on site
Develops draft solutions, supports the development, evaluates and tests new service strategies
Documentation of service operations and assessment to drive needed changes for quality assurance
Defines training content, creating documents and conducting training
Responsible for the interface between SMS, PCS, OEM customer and end customer and as a contact communication with these organizations
Due to the complex nature of this role, extensive training is required
Additional duties may be assigned as required by manager
Do you qualify?
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Optics, or Mechatronics is preferred, or 5 years of industry experience in the area of optics or mechatronics.
High customer orientation with special engagement and flexibility in regard to service hours
Ability to read and understand electrical or mechanical engineering documentation and schematics.
Technical experience working in the semiconductor industry
May periodically be required to travel internationally
Single-handed workability, strong hands-on mentality, and the ability to assert oneself.
Experience working within the optics industry is preferred.
Good communication skills written and verbal in English.
Experienced with Windows operating environments and word processing, email applications, and databases/ CRM systems.
Working Conditions and Special Demands:
Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 lbs.; ability to stand for long periods; ability to stoop, squat, kneel, twist and lay down in the course of equipment repair.
The position will initially require substantial travel within the U.S. with further travel to Germany and Japan for training, and will ultimately reside in the Hillsboro, OR area
Ability to work long hours in a semiconductor cleanroom environment, following all protocols.
The position may require overtime, including weekend as required.
Position requires working with x-ray sources, laser systems and/or potentially hazardous chemistries.
Position Requires ability and dexterity to perform technical trouble shooting on complex optical equipment.
Position requires advanced math skills and ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
