POSITION SUMMARY:

Group Leaders are responsible for supervising children while conducting educational, cultural, and recreational activities for children from grades Pre-K-8. Daily functions include leading a group of assigned children through a scheduled plan of activities while providing a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment.

 

In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. To supervise and interact appropriately with all children in the program according to prescribed YMCA standards during school district days off at the branch
  2. To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to sports, games, crafts, etc.
  3. To complete all required documentation and training for the program
  4. To interact appropriately with all parents of program participants
  5. Ensure that all children have a safe and fun experience 
  6. Provide general cleaning of toys, equipment, and room after every shift
  7. Accurately record attendance of children and report to parents’ pertinent information
  8. Reporting of safety issues, attendance numbers and general needs of the programs
  9. Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of abuse, and reacting properly when they occur
  10. Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service
  11. Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA
  12. Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participants
  13. All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Foster positive staff, parent, and child relations.
  3. Ability to supervise a group of 25 children in a safe and friendly manner.
  4. CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment and complete all other required 90 day trainings.
  5. Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
