POSITION SUMMARY:
Group Leaders are responsible for supervising children while conducting educational, cultural, and recreational activities for children from grades Pre-K-8. Daily functions include leading a group of assigned children through a scheduled plan of activities while providing a safe, friendly, and nurturing environment.
In addition, every position in the YMCA of Coastal Georgia, Inc. is responsible for upholding the Judeo-Christian principles that are central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the four pillars of character - caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To supervise and interact appropriately with all children in the program according to prescribed YMCA standards during school district days off at the branch
- To plan, implement and participate in all scheduled activities including, but not limited to sports, games, crafts, etc.
- To complete all required documentation and training for the program
- To interact appropriately with all parents of program participants
- Ensure that all children have a safe and fun experience
- Provide general cleaning of toys, equipment, and room after every shift
- Accurately record attendance of children and report to parents’ pertinent information
- Reporting of safety issues, attendance numbers and general needs of the programs
- Preventing incidents of child abuse, identifying incidents of abuse, and reacting properly when they occur
- Assist in the overall retention and satisfaction of YMCA members through appropriate customer service
- Assist in the Annual Campaign fundraising program for the YMCA
- Maintain a positive and cheerful attitude with staff, peers, and program participants
- All other duties as assigned
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Foster positive staff, parent, and child relations.
- Ability to supervise a group of 25 children in a safe and friendly manner.
- CPR and First Aid required within 30 days of employment and complete all other required 90 day trainings.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check and obtain authorization to work with children under the Georgia Department of Labor and YMCA guidelines.
