PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Global Head RSA Flavor is the senior Regulatory & Scientific Affairs (RSA) role responsible for the ADM Flavor business Portfolio.  This role sits on the Global ADM RSA team, as well as the Flavor Leadership Team and plays a vital role in shaping the strategy and direction of the business.   ADM’s Flavor business offers a robust portfolio of ingredients including Colors by Nature, Flavoring ingredients, Botanicals, Extracts, Citrus, Mint, Vanilla and the food solutions that use these and other ADM ingredients.  
This role leads the Regulatory & Scientific Affairs functional interface with the business, regulatory authorities and external partners.  Specifically, this role develops applicable strategies to ensure market access for ADM and its customers; provides direction and prioritization for the function; ensures ADMs products are labeled appropriately and comply with the requirements of the intended use and market by providing regulatory expertise and direction, understands the global impacts of new regulations, customer requirements and/or new challenges that affect ADM’s freedom to operate and develops & directs global regulatory approach to address these impacts; engages with external partners and customers to represent the company and defend its interests.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supporting the business

  • Oversight of functional team and direct according to business priorities for product stewardship, market entry, claims, and maintenance of the regulatory aspects of the portfolio.  Serves as the Strategic Regulatory & Scientific Affairs lead for Global Flavor Business.
  • Work closely with the RSA Leadership Team to support the RSA function-to-business partnership in terms of division design and maintenance, coverage, cross-division functional responses and conduit to commercial strategies
  • Work closely with RSA Leadership and business stakeholders to develop and evaluate applicable e customer service metrics  and functional support metrics  for this portfolio
  • Work with RSA, Nutrition and BU Leadership to align on the applicable  RSA budget
  • Support due diligence required for M&A and JV activities as identified and requested by RSA and Business leadership
  • Ensure that the RSA Flavor teams are maintaining the appropriate source information to support regulatory database(s) for business partners including Operations, Marketing, Products Development and Applications, R&D, etc.
  • Advise and support quality, marketing and product management departments in ensuring regulatory compliance of products and marketing tools.
  • Check regulatory status of new ingredients and new products against applicable requirements and liaise with global regulatory network for other regions.
  • Partner with other ADM functions with shared responsibility to ensure compliance for product labelling, & market claims, SDS and quality/regulatory statements. 
  • Service customers (internal and external) by responding to regulatory enquiries on developing products are products in market.
  • To contribute to ADM’s working groups on regulatory topics.
Ensuring market authorization for ingredients and finished products
  • Actively participate in and lead consortia (e.g., IOFI, FEMA and others as needed) for authorization or renewals of ingredients that are vital to the activities of the BU and that advance harmonization, and market access for the ADM portfolio  (for instance flavoring, colors, or novel protein dossiers)
  • Support the preparation of authorization and renewal dossiers in partnership with Science & Technology and Marketing and Product Management.
  • Define regulatory strategy to accelerate market launch of new specialty offerings, ingredients and finished products in collaboration with regional teams and external consultants.

Lobbying within Professional Associations network

  • Engage with external partners (regulatory bodies, trade associations) in coordination with the regional and global BU leadership to represent the company and defend ADM’s interests
  • Provide advice and act proactively to anticipate any regulatory change impacting the business
Education:
  • University Degree in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Toxicology, (Food) Law or other related field, or equivalent experience; Graduate degree or equivalent experience preferred.
Experience & Skills:
  • Preferred more than 15 years of experience related to food/beverage, food ingredient and/or flavor industry or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 years in Regulatory Affairs in the food/beverage, flavor industry.
