Position Overview

The SAP Platform Owner at bpx energy will lead and oversee the SAP Platform Squad, ensuring effective operations, maintenance, enhancements, standards, and governance of our SAP S/4HANA landscape. This role will serve as the central coordinator across both the Technology organization and the broader bpx business, ensuring the SAP platform supports diverse enterprise initiatives.

With SAP work distributed across multiple teams, the SAP Platform Owner is accountable for the prioritization of support efforts, and, more importantly, the overall coordination, integrity, and governance of the SAP S/4HANA system. The SAP Platform Owner’s responsibilities span all SAP environments, associated tools and applications, and all internal and external interfaces to bpx energy.

In collaboration with the Enterprise Architecture team, the SAP Platform Owner will help define and drive the strategic use of SAP to address bpx energy’s most critical business priorities. A key focus will be helping the organization mature into a true “SAP Shop,” maximizing the return on our SAP investment while recognizing that SAP may not be the right fit-for-purpose solution for every business need.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the SAP Platform Squad, providing strategic direction and tactical prioritization to balance platform stability with the delivery of new business capabilities.
  • Define and maintain the SAP platform roadmap, incorporating both technical and functional elements in alignment with the broader enterprise strategy. A deep understanding of SAP’s product direction and complementary technologies is essential.
  • Collaborate closely with Value Squads and business stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage SAP capabilities, align on priorities, and sequence initiatives for maximum value delivery.
  • Ensure platform integrity, reliability, security, and governance, implementing and maintaining robust controls, policies, and standards.
  • Drive end-to-end SAP initiative delivery, applying a business transformation lens to define, communicate, and shepherd initiatives from conception through to completion.
  • Oversee the SAP production and project landscapes, ensuring integrated QA and deployment environments that support efficient change delivery to production
  • Manage relationships and collaborate with key technology vendors (e.g., SAP, Microsoft, Red Hat, system integrators, and support partners), ensuring alignment, accountability, and value realization.
Understand and manage the connected systems to the SAP platform; additionally, assess the continued use of the connected systems or the assimilation of those systems into the SAP software system
  • Co-create and evolve the SAP platform strategy and architectural vision, in partnership with technology leads, solution architects, and enterprise architecture.
  • Maintain an up-to-date SAP solution roadmap, tracking industry trends and technology changes to ensure the platform remains current and aligned with business needs.
  • Conduct and share technology research and evaluations, advising on solution fit for SAP and the broader enterprise application ecosystem.
  • Provide technical consultation to both technology and business stakeholders, serving as a trusted advisor for SAP platform-related decisions.
  • Champion architecture principles and governance frameworks, ensuring compliance and promoting consistency across the SAP ecosystem.
  • Mitigate risk through effective platform governance, including the application of security standards, data protection practices, and compliance measures.
  • Support proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives, collaborating with enterprise architects and delivery teams to test and validate potential SAP solutions.
  • Collaborate with SAP Solution and Enterprise Architects to define integration methods, middleware solutions, and testing frameworks used across the SAP landscape.
  • Guide and support SAP-focused Guilds, ensuring adherence to development standards, integration best practices, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Act as a Change Agent, championing continuous improvement across people, processes, and technologies.
  • Enable agile delivery excellence, breaking down complex initiatives into actionable steps, supporting iterative progress, and relentlessly improving squad performance.
