Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
As a Staff Platform Engineer, you will head a team of talented and dedicated engineers within the Future Forward organization. This is an exciting opportunity to grow a technical team focused on developing new solutions to address significant unmet patient needs.
In this leadership position, you will drive product definition and formative development activities in support of new or emerging applications, aspiring to be hands while also leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers to deliver high value technical solutions.
Critical to the success of this role is experience in leading small technical teams to successfully drive market definition, product specification and early engineering development for new technology-based instruments and platforms, from inception to formal program launch.
Your role will be to combine technical acumen in the development of complex surgical platforms, with special focus on embedded software and hardware, with cross-functional coordination across project stakeholders, leading to th definition of project scope schedule, milestones and delivery towards early feasibility studies, regulatory clearances.
The successful candidate must excel in a high-energy small, focused team environment, be able to drive to solutions from rough requirements and methodical prototype iterations, and have a commitment to high product quality that places patients first.
Quick learning and a desire to understand requirements from a user’s and engineering’s perspective are essential to become a valuable system developer. A dedicated sense of shared responsibility and shared reward is required, as is the ability to make work fun and interesting. Supporting you will be a development and management team that knows and cares about what you are doing and wants you to succeed.
Essential Job Duties
- Drive a technical team through early-stage product development and business validation of novel solutions.
- Drive direct reports to prioritize internal projects and processes to achieve functional and business priorities.
- Manage the team using resource planning, goal setting and tracking, career growth, performance management, hiring, budgeting and spend management.
- Contribute with senior leadership to defining the direction for new products, processes, standards, and operational plans based on business strategy.
- Represent your project ably in interactions externally with key customer collaborators and internally within the company.
- Lead in developing research and development plans and partner in financial performance strategy, product KPI impact strategy as well as associated field validation studies for your program.
Qualifications
Required Education and Training
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, or similar technical field.
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in developing and supporting embedded systems (or 6 years with a Master’s degree, or 3 years with a PhD degree).
