Role description:

Arcadis is seeking an Industrial Water Process Engineer to join the Industrial Water Treatment and Optimization team to support our growing number of industrial water and wastewater related design projects. Remote work is allowed although clients and projects are predominantly based in the Western US; preferred location would be California.

Role accountabilities:

The Industrial Water Process Engineer will have the opportunity to function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects, gain design experience using processes such as chemical precipitation, biological treatment, membrane filtration, ion exchange, solids separation, and solids dewatering while collaborating with a process engineering team and receiving technical guidance from a senior process engineer.

This role will direct engineering or scientific calculations/ drawings to junior staff, collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions, and coordinate with our drafting team to create design drawings and models, including process flow, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), general arrangements and mechanical piping drawings.

Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables for a variety of industrial water projects,
  • Field work will be required, including but not limited to sampling, data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, bench- and pilot-scale treatability testing, etc.
  • Assist with system commissioning and start-up, including training plant staff.
  • Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings.
  • Manage projects as necessary to meet both client and Arcadis’ expectations.
  • Supporting business development including proposal preparation and meeting with clients.
  • Travel as needed for meetings, site visits, etc. (typically 10%, up to 25%). 
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint proficient.
  • Consulting engineering firm experience is a plus.
  • Effective collaboration and coordination within a multi-disciplinary project environment.
  • Provide mentorship to early career engineers.

The Industrial Water Process Engineer should possess a good understanding of several types of industrial wastewater treatment systems, proficient at communicating design details to a drafting team for the creation of design drawings and the review of those drawings and demonstrate understanding and interest in mine water treatment and critical mineral recovery.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field of study with focus on industrial water treatment; and/or
  • Minimum of 5 years (advanced degrees count as 2 years) of progressively increasing responsibility in industrial water including familiarity with the following: industrial water treatment process design, multidisciplinary detailed design, data analysis, and treatability testing. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in engineering 
  • 7+ years of experience. 
  • Professional engineer registration in one or more states.
