Provides specialized patient care and education for patients receiving research treatments, etc., in the Clinical Translational Research Unit. Provides patient care and is involved in the administration of clinical research studies. Provides nursing study support, collects and documents data per research protocol. Provides clear and comprehensive documentation of study visit activities while adhering to the study protocol; uses professional nursing judgment when conducting nursing research activities.The hours are from 6:30 pm - 7:00 am.
Job Description
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating a plan of patient care.
- Plans, provides, and documents professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for research participant study visits in accordance with the protocol.
- Performs procedures and/or administers Investigational Drugs in strict compliance to the study protocol, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), and other state and local regulations as applicable.
- Provides patient care, which may include administering medication, performing procedures and monitoring patient status in accordance with approved nursing practice.
- Performs study defined procedures and assessments, including, but not limited to, vital signs, IV placement, drug administration, lab collection, lab processing, phlebotomy, electrocardiograms, etc., in strict compliance with the study protocol.
- Provides appropriate counsel and education to patients/families regarding disease process and symptom management.
- Maintains medical records requiring appropriate and timely recording of patient information.
- Consults with members of the health care team, adjusting nursing care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Assists the health care provider with examinations, procedures, prescription refills and other processes related to direct patient care.
- Maintains required skills and competencies and participates in educational programs, staff meetings and in services such as CPR as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Current RN licensure in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois, depending on location, in accordance with Compact Act.
- Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).
