Position Summary: The Driver Education Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction that prepares students to become safe, responsible, and knowledgeable drivers. The teacher creates a supportive learning environment, monitors and evaluates student progress, and ensures that all instruction is conducted in accordance with applicable laws, safety requirements, and district expectations. The Driver Education Teacher maintains and oversees program vehicles and equipment, communicates effectively with students and families, and works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other staff as an integral member of the school team. The position also contributes to the ongoing development and success of the Driver Education program and supports the district's commitment to student safety and success.
Qualifications:
Possess or be eligible for a valid Delaware teaching license and be certified as Delaware Driver Education and Traffic Safety Education Teacher Standard Certificate in accordance with 14 Del. C. §1553.

- Develop and maintain a classroom and instructional environment conducive to effective learning, with particular emphasis on student safety, responsibility, and preparation for safe driving.
- Plan and deliver engaging Driver Education instruction that prepares students to meet state requirements and develop the knowledge, skills, and decision-making abilities necessary for safe and responsible driving.
- Provide effective classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction using a variety of instructional strategies and resources that address the needs and abilities of individual students.
- Maintain a strong focus on student safety during all classroom, simulation, and behind-the-wheel instruction. Follow all applicable laws, regulations, district policies, and established safety procedures.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, staff, vehicles, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Prepare students to make safe, responsible, and informed decisions as drivers, including understanding traffic laws, defensive driving practices, risk management, and the responsibilities associated with operating a motor vehicle.
- Evaluate and monitor student progress regularly and provide appropriate feedback to support student growth and successful completion of the Driver Education program.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and timely records related to student instruction, attendance, progress, driving hours, assessments, and other program requirements.
- Manage Driver Education vehicles, including maintaining cleanliness, monitoring fuel levels, completing required inspections, and reporting or coordinating necessary maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct regular safety checks of Driver Education vehicles and immediately address or report any safety concerns or vehicle issues.
- Communicate regularly and professionally with students and families regarding student progress, expectations, scheduling, safety, and program requirements.
- Establish and maintain positive, respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and community partners.
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, Board policies, and Driver Education program expectations.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, counselors, and other staff to support students and contribute to the overall success of the school and its students.
- Participate actively as an integral member of the school team, including attending faculty meetings, professional learning opportunities, and Professional Learning Communities as appropriate.
