A Lot About You

We’re seeking a Senior Manager to lead a team of social editors working across the Yahoo News, Entertainment and Lifestyle accounts. As a senior manager, you will be instrumental in shaping our visual storytelling and audience engagement approach on social by effectively harnessing your teams’ creativity to make our content sing and bring new audiences to the Yahoo brand. 

In this role, you will oversee the team responsible for the creation and publishing of all visuals and articles across Instagram, Facebook, X, Threads, Reddit, LinkedIn and WhatsApp, working closely with the video team to ensure a well-rounded approach to each story. You will work closely with the Director of Social and Senior Manager of Video to develop strategies for social platforms that drive engagement, referrals, and growth. 

This role requires an experienced and collaborative people leader who is also able to dive into the day-to-day creation of content. The ideal candidate will be a senior professional who is able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and swiftly pivot between assignments. 

Responsibilities:

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor social editors with varying levels of experience. Provide guidance on captions, visuals, and content choices. Foster a collaborative environment that encourages creativity and innovation.

  • Strategic planning: Along with the Director of Social and Senior Manager of Video, maintain a content calendar for Yahoo News’ social media channels. Oversee the planning, prioritizing, and pacing of content releases to align with strategic goals.

  • Content Oversight: Ensure the creation of high-quality, compelling visual and text content. Ensure content is editorially sound, copy-edited, and meets platform-specific needs.

  • Visual creation: Quickly create and edit compelling, high-quality visual content in Canva, ensuring alignment with strategic goals and platform-specific needs.

  • News judgment and collaboration: Collaborate with teams across Yahoo to ensure timely and accurate coverage of breaking news, key events and conversations taking over the internet. 

  • Jump on trends: Use social listening tools to identify viral conversations and internet trends. Generate ideas with your team on how to quickly reflect the conversation across the Yahoo channels in a unique and brand-safe way. 

  • Audience focused: Develop and implement strategies that consider platform-specific requirements and audience preferences. Use data to make strategic recommendations for content.

  • Editorial experience: Maintain a consistent editorial voice and uphold Yahoo News’ standards for news content across all platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 7 years experience in social media-focused journalism roles. Prior management experience required.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and a team simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Demonstrated news judgment and copy-editing skills with an ability to adapt text-based journalism for social media platforms.

  • Experience as the editorial lead on key news events in a large newsroom or media organization.

  • Experience coordinating editors and social programmers with a strong ability to multitask and prioritize.

  • Fluency in visual editing tools such as Canva and Adobe Photoshop.

  • Fluency in social publishing and analytics tools such as SocialFlow,
