Senior Scientist, Biologics Characterization and Developability
MSDAbout the role
Job Description
The Protein Sciences Department within the Discovery Biologics organization in South San Francisco is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to join the Protein Characterization and Developability team. The team works integrated with other teams within Protein Sciences Department as well as Therapeutic Area discovery project teams and plays a pivotal role in early biologics discovery by engaging in high throughput biophysical screening, molecule optimization and developability assessments to enable selection of the best candidate molecule for further development. The successful candidate is expected to have deep knowledge and experience in protein chemistry and biophysical characterization of biologics using chromatographic methods such as SEC, HIC, RP, electrophoretic methods (CE-SDS, cIEF), light scattering methods (DLS/SLS) and other analytical methods such as nanoDSF, DSC, SINS, etc. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in characterization of biologics in different flavors – monoclonal antibodies (mAbs), bi-/multi-specifics, fusion proteins, antibody drug conjugates (ADCs), etc.
The successful candidate will primarily work on the bench and is expected to work independently and collaboratively to plan/design and execute experiments, develop/optimize methods, analyze and collate data and present at group, departmental, and team meetings. S/he is also expected to contribute for a smooth lab operation by actively addressing instrumentation issues, maintaining lab equipment, exploring/evaluating new technologies as well as adhering to laboratory safety practices.
The Senior Scientist will have the opportunity to work with a wide array of scientists and leaders from different departments and functional areas, engage with project teams, use the latest technologies as well as novel approaches, and make significant contributions towards our company biologics discovery pipeline.
