Position Overview:
As an Electro-Mechanical Component Engineer on Mercury Racing’s Product Development Team, you will lead the design and validation of electrical components and wiring harnesses for Mercury’s propulsion and control systems. Projects typically focus on new engine design, but can also include the electrical components associated with pumps, steering controls, and transmission controls. This role will be more focused on the electrical hardware and less on the software. It will also expand into non-electrical (mechanical) component design as needed.
At Brunswick, we have passion for our work and a distinct ability to deliver.
Essential Functions:
Lead a small team of engineers and technicians, providing project responsibilities, priorities, workload, schedule, etc.
Work with internal and external manufacturing facilities and suppliers for both prototype and production builds
Participate in and facilitate concept reviews, design reviews, and design FMEAs
Facilitate or participate in component and harness mockup/design reviews
Development and execution of validation plans
Support system-level vessel testing and validation of electrical components
Design mechanical components as needed.
Examples of systems/projects to expect:
Spec and source alternators and starter motors that satisfy the engines’ requirements (amperage, weight, corrosion protection, spark prevention, NVH tolerance, etc.)
Specing and sourcing sensors (temp, pressure, crank/cam position) that best suit the application.
Specing and sourcing actuators (throttle bodies, electric valves, pumps, linear actuators, etc.) that best suit the application.
Designing Power Distribution Centers (fuses, relays, battery interface, etc.)
Designing wiring harnesses to connect all systems.
Diversity of thought and experiences is fundamental when imagining the unimaginable. Certain skillsets/experiences are necessary; however, others can be developed along the way.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering or equivalent
8+ years of relevant experience
Proficiency in the lab environment; test equipment, prototype build/modify/debug tools - particularly with component level testing of Actuators, Sensors (hall effect, digital), Electric motors (brushed, brushless) and Controllers
Familiarity with control framework for hydraulic and digital systems
Preferred Qualifications:
Injection molding experience
