Appointment will be made on Senior Neuro-Physiologist (€54,568 - €71,453 LSI) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Beaumont Hospital is a major 820-bed teaching hospital associated with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. It is the National Centre for Neurosurgery and also has significant departments of Neurology, Clinical Neurophysiology, Neuropathology and Neuroradiology.  It accepts primary, secondary and tertiary referrals.  Specialised Clinical Neuroscience services provided include neuromuscular clinics, an active epileptology and epilepsy surgery programme, a neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring programme, migraine clinics, and an acute stroke service. Several other specialties including medicine for the old age, general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics and endocrinology and rheumatology refer for neurodiagnostic testing.

                      

Clinical Neurophysiology is a member of the NEUROCENT Directorate, which includes Neuroscience Ophthalmology, Cochlear Implant and ENT. A range of services including electroencephalography (EEG), nerve conduction studies (NCS), electromyography (EMG) intraoperative monitoring (IOM) and video telemetry EEG, botulinum toxin clinic for neurological disorders and carpal tunnel clinics are delivered.

Responsibilities

 

 

General Duties:

 

Adheres to his/her training regarding ethical responsibilities and confidentiality.

 

Conforms to all Departmental, as well as Hospital, policies and procedures.

 

Maintains appropriate interpersonal skills with patients, colleagues, physicians and other hospital staff.

 

Maintains all instrumentation in excellent working order, checking calibration and making minor maintenance adjustments and repairs deemed by the instrument manufacturer as appropriate and safe.

           

Performs other departmental related duties such as the collection of statistics,               archiving, stock taking and other duties as directed by the Chief-Neuro Physiologist.

 

Senior Neuro-Physiologist is expected to perform his/her duties under the guidance of the Chief Neuro-Physiologist and reports to the Chief Neuro-Physiologist and Consultant Staff.

 

Deputises for Chief Neuro-Physiologist in their absence if required.

 

 

Specific Duties:

 

Explains the test procedures to the patient to obtain the patient's co-operation necessary for a complete examination.  Checks the patient's medical chart for orders and special needs with particular attention to patients with pacemakers.

 

Performs standard and advanced Nerve Conduction Studies in a highly skilled, patient-appropriate manner, recognises normal and abnormal results, and, recognises and takes reasonable steps to eliminate physiological and non-physiological artifact.

 

Performs bed side EEG studies in the intensive care unit or outside the department understanding the special technical requirements of these areas.

 

Performs Routine EEG's and Evoked Potentials.

 

Performs Sleep Deprived EEG in a highly skilled patient-appropriate manner.

 

Maintains an uninterrupted Video EEG/Epilepsy Monitoring service and possesses the specialised skills required to perform this advanced procedure.

 

Assists with the implantation of intracranial electrodes and analyses the recorded data.

 

Performs intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring for a wide range of cortical and spinal surgical procedures giving live feedback to the surgical team.

 

Supervises and participates in the teaching of junior personnel and students and   reports same to the Chief Neuro Physiologist.

 

 

Maintain Professional Competency:

 

The Senior Neuro-Physiologist will be expected to show evidence of maintenance of professional competency through attendance at workshops and seminars and participation at journal clubs.  The Senior
