Penn LPS Pre-Health Programs Committee Letter for Fall 2026 Matriculation Year Cycle

Description

The Penn LPS Pre-Health Programs Evaluation Committee provides confidential individualized committee letters for students who are applying for professional studies at medical and dental schools. As described by AMCAS, “the Committee Letter is a letter authored by a pre-health committee or pre-health advisor and intended to represent your institution's evaluation of you.”  The committee letter becomes part of a recommendation letter packet assembled by the Penn LPS Pre-Health Programs which also includes each of your individual letters of evaluation.   

These instructions are for current Penn LPS Pre-Health Post-Bacc students who are in good academic standing and are applying to medical or dental school for the first time with our program’s letter support.

To be committee letter eligible, all students must meet the qualification criteria as outlined below, submit all application materials, and observe all internal deadline dates.

The deadline for all Pre-Health Committee Letter requests is March 1st. Requests submitted after the March 1st deadline will not be considered by the program.

Qualifications

Pre-Health Core Studies students must:

• Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 for coursework in the Penn Pre-Health curriculum.
• Any two semesters with a GPA below 3.20 may disqualify a student from committee letter eligibility.
• Complete 12.0 course units (CUs) of approved pre-health course work at Penn.
• A minimum of 11.0 CUs must be complete by the end of the spring term of their professional school application cycle. It is acceptable for a Core Studies student to enroll in and complete the final 1.0 CU during the summer term to achieve the full complement of required course credit.
• Students finishing their remaining course unit requirements in the summer semester must have final grades posted before committee letters are released.
• Only course work completed as part of Penn’s Pre-Health Program applies to committee letter eligibility.

 

Pre-Health Specialized Studies students must:

• Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.20 for coursework in the Pre-Health curriculum at Penn.
• Any two semesters with a GPA below 3.20 may disqualify a student from committee letter eligibility.
• Complete 8.0 course units (CUs) of approved pre-health course work at Penn.
• A minimum of 6.0 CUs must be complete by the end of the spring term of their professional school application cycle. It is acceptable for a Specialized Studies student to enroll in and complete the final 2.0 CUs during the summer term to achieve the full complement of required course credit.
• Students finishing their remaining course unit requirements in the summer semester must have final grades posted before committee letters are released.  
• Only course work completed as part of Penn’s Pre-Health program applies to committee letter eligibility.

Effective Summer 2022 semester and onward:

• For Pre-Health students that need to complete general/inorganic chemistry and/or physics courses as part of their Pre-Health curriculum at Penn, they must have successfully completed the online Math On-Ramp (MOR) course to be eligible for the Penn LPS Pre-Health Committee Letter.

Application Instructions

All students must complete the following application forms directly on the University of Pennsylvania's Academic Opportunities application platform on INTERFOLIO to request the committee letter.

• Intent to Apply Form
• List of Evaluators Form

o   Students must identify a minimum of three and no more than a maximum of five individual evaluators on the form.

o   A minimum of three individual LOEs must be identified AND requested by March 1st to submit your Interfolio request. The actual due date for three individual LOEs to be received is May 1st. All individual LOEs supporting your committee letter are due no later than June 1st.

o   At least two individual letters of evaluation are required from a Penn faculty member to support your committee letter.  To fulfill this requirement, the committee will also accept letters of evaluation from someone affiliated with Penn Medicine, HUP, CHOP, Presby Medical Center, and
