Job Mission

The IT DevOps Application Support Engineer will play a key role in supporting an Engineering Workspace, consisting of Virtual Desktops (Windows), a (Linux) High Performance Computing Cluster including storage, a suite of simulation applications and a (cloud based) CI/CD pipeline for managing this set of technologies. The IT DevOps Support Engineer is part of a global DevOps team of about 11 people who support multiple products and user groups in Europe and the US

The role will involve in-depth knowledge in the deployment and testing of Simulation Applications on Windows Client / VDI environments. A successful candidate would have prior knowledge of building and maintaining automated functional application testing CI/CD pipelines. Experience in the use or support of Commercial engineering applications in the realm of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) or Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is a pre.

Role and responsibilities

We are looking for a Mid-level to Senior-level IT Support engineer with experience on (some of) the following areas: Windows / Citrix / Functional Application Testing / CI/CD / Scripting. A willingness to learn parts of these technologies is required.

  • Offers end user IT service support for the Engineering Workspace. Including and not limited to:

    • Day-to-day troubleshooting. Provides first-line support to an end-user community of approximately 30 users.

    • Works with (second line) support within the IT department and Vendors on resolving more complex issues

    • Works in a DevOps team of about 11 people

    • The work will be around 25% Operational and 75% Development

    • Development work focusses on deploying and testing simulation applications on Citrix / Windows Client environments

  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives for the Engineering Workspace service, seeking to increase end-user efficiency and IT service availability through automation

Education and experience

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a related field; with a preference for degrees in Computer Science/Engineering

Experience

Preferred candidates will have experience with one or more of the following:

  • Experience with supporting end users of technologies such as Citrix and Windows Client OS

  • Experience with working with and designing / implementing application testing scenarios preferably through CI/CD pipelines.

Preferred candidates will have experience with three or more of the following:

  • Scripting in Windows using PowerShell

  • General Windows and Linux System Administration

  • CI/CD Pipeline design / configuration / implementation

  • Functional Application testing automation

  • Simulation Applications like Ansys, StarCCM, HyperWorks, MATLAB

  • Working in an Agile / SAFe environment

Any prior experience in migration projects such as Desktop to VDI or Desktop to cloud would be a significant advantage in this role.
