JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
A part time engineering position in the Strategic Navigation Systems Department, Department within the Navigation Research and Development Division at the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State is available. The Strategic Navigation Systems Department focuses on the development and evaluation of high-performance navigation systems, sensors, and integration of those sensors into the US Navy’s strategic weapons systems.
You will:
- Perform engineering work related to navigation engineering and strategic weapon systems
- Provide expertise on integration of new technologies to maintain and existing navigation systems
- Provide trusted agent support to ARL sponsors to ensure technical rigor necessary to meet program requirements
- Support navigation modernization activities
- Support the integration of navigation sensors within the strategic weapon system
- Support the integration of navigation sensors within the host platform
- Work well within a team of UARC, government, and industry partners
- Support long-range strategic planning activities for enhancements to currently deployed US and UK navigation systems
- Support internal strategic planning activities
Minimally requires a Bachelors' degree in and engineering or science discipline and 19 years' related experience
Requirements of this position include:
- Navigation experience in a DoD (Department of Defense) environment
- Experience with strategic weapon systems
- Experience with strategic navigation systems
- Expertise in PNT technologies which may include Inertial Navigation, Sonar Navigation Technologies Global Positioning System, Alternative Navigation Technologies, Geophysical Navigation
- Experience supporting DoD research, acquisition, and sustainment programs
- Excellent presentation skills and effective written and oral communication
- Ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance
Preferred knowledge or skills include:
- An active Top Secret security clearance is preferred.
