Job Location MDK Chicago - Chicago, ILMDK, an innovative law firm, is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Paralegal to provide essential support to a team of legal professionals. In this role, you will assist with preparing a variety of standard legal documents, ensuring that all communications between clients, courts, and the legal team are handled efficiently to keep cases progressing in a timely manner.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Case Management: Review case management system and take responsibility for tasks within your scope, ensuring cases are progressing in a timely manner.
- Legal Document Preparation: Prepare, process, and review standard legal notices and pleadings.
- Service of Process: Ensure successful service of process for assigned cases.
- Property Sales: Assist the team with tasks related to the sale of properties.
- Hearing and Mediation Prep: Assist with hearing preparation, scheduling, client communication, and reviewing results; manage hearings in compliance with court orders.
- Communication Coordination: Coordinate communication between tenants, occupants, property preservation groups, and clients, particularly on eviction matters.
- Client Communication: Handle phone calls related to eviction matters with tenants, clients, courts, and sheriffs.
- Attorney Fees: Request attorney fees from clients.
- Client System Updates: Update client systems as tasks are processed.
- Training Support: Assist with the training of new team members as needed.
- MDK Culture: Develop a thorough understanding of MDK culture and support the company’s mission and values.
- Team Support: Support the team in meeting firm expectations and goals.
- Legal Process Familiarity: Actively work to familiarize yourself with the entire legal process for all tasks performed by the team.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High school diploma required; Associate’s degree and/or Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred
- Law firm experience, 3-5 years is preferred.
- Hybrid position – flexibility to work both remotely and in our Chicago office on a rotating basis.
- Notary Public certification strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
