Position Summary:
Florida Atlantic University is seeking an Assistant Lab Coordinator - Boca Raton, FL.
Summary of Responsibilities include:
Supports Lab Coordinator with overall coordination of all assigned teaching labs.
Supports hiring, training, and mentorship of Graduate Teaching Assistants and/or Student Aides under the guidance of the Lab Coordinator.
Shares recommendations for the revision of existing teaching practices, lab policies and procedures, and safety practices and protocols based on day-to-day activities.
Supports communication with agencies and/or vendors outside the SUS/university as appropriate under the direction of the Lab Coordinator to ensure smooth running of labs.
Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of his/her academic program area.
Coordinating activities in support of all and/or assigned teaching laboratory courses and assisting Lab Coordinator with daily operations of teaching facilities including but not limited to the following: lab set-up, cleaning and restocking of teaching labs; maintaining of bacterial cultures using aseptic methods and quality control; preparing reagents for laboratory exercises and culture media; maintaining working inventories of consumables including preserved organs and animals; acting as building/floor safety representative and emergency coordinator.
Working with Lab Coordinator for preventative maintenance and/or repair of equipment such as freezers, incubators, centrifuges, fume and laminar flow hoods in house or through outside sources as necessary and maintaining of associated records.
Storing and maintaining small equipment, chemical and biological inventory including preserved and live specimens, microorganism stocks with appropriate safety documentation and, in the case of microbial cultures, under the approval of FAUs OSHA Biosafety Officer.
Assisting Lab Coordinator in maintaining safety equipment/materials required for laboratory courses.
Assisting with the coordination of proper storage of chemical and biological waste on site for disposal by Environmental Health and Safety and maintenance of associated records.
Other duties as assigned.
